Thanks to our education system, we all know why *we* went to war, twice - which was to save poor old Franceypoohs from the evil machinations of expansionist Germany.
Very little stress is ever placed on why Germany was always so keen on expansion. As an aside, might that be worth a thread in its own right? Does the same desire to expand still exist and why?
Expand it did, though and I note that, second time around, the expansion was southward (Austria, semi-voluntarily) and eastwards (Sudetenland and Poland) before, buttressed against Russia (ally of convenience) they pushed west (France had only the Atlantic into which to retreat).
Cameron's dire warning is, unwittingly, or barely so, implying that a major european nation is going to go rogue, should Brexit cause the union to unzip itself.
