The Branagh-narrated series about WWI is uppermost in my memory. They had a go at explaing the causes but the lasting impression I have is that it was practically a grotesque parody of the (later) board game of Diplomacy, whereby lasting piece had been achieved through a complex web of mutual-support pacts. it has been er a revelation to me - I am not sure what relevance ( pun intended ) there is to the situation in Europe in 2016. Come to think of it I am not sure of its relevance to the time when it was written ( first cent AD ) =is there a nostradamus out there who can tell me ?
