Not sure what is wrong here. This little lad looks very neat and tidy to me !

I had hair only marginally longer when I was a lad in the 50's.

My OH is a barber, and just after Xmas he received a letter from the local senior school asking him not to do numbers whatever on pupils from that school. Needless to say it went straight in the bin. Why the hell should he have to ask a kid which school he attends?

I think it was probably the association with gangs which the haircut might have in Birmingham?

A little heavy handed...
Yeah possibly, Ed. Errmm, while you're there, is there a reason why a particular guest house can't be mentioned on AB?

This later article has more information.

>Joshua's mother Claire Reape, 26, was told to change her son's hair over the weekend or he wouldn't be allowed back to Abbey Catholic Primary School in Erdington, Birmingham.

It also has a statement from the school:
>A spokesperson for Abbey Catholic Primary School said: 'The school has a strict school uniform policy which all pupils and their families are made aware of when they join the school.
'A child attended school on Friday with a hair style that was unacceptable and his mother was asked to change his hair style in line with school policy.'

It seems a bit heavy handed if he was only given the weekend to change it, and assuming they gave no guidance as to what changes needed to be made over the weekend. However I still think there may be more to this story than we are told here.

I think the point naomi has made is the most valid. Parents are not allowed to remove their child from school but the school itself believes having a "correct" haircut is more important than the child's education. I've seen longer hair in the forces and police.
> but the school itself believes having a "correct" haircut is more important than the child's education.
Maybe the school feels it is the wider issue of following school rules that is more important.
If the rules outweigh the child's education then they need to be changed.
Having looked at photos and videos of the other pupils he's not the only lad with this haircut.....which looks fine to me....
I'll bet it would have gone unnoticed had he not told friends it was a Peaky Blinders Cut.....☺

What an odd school......x

I feel so sorry for this young lad....would that all boys went to school as neat and tidy as this !

I am keen to know why the school have acted so draconically......they have some explaining to do.

Just to add....if the lad had been sent to school with his hair dyed a daft colour, that a lot of young women use these days, I could understand it.

This has made me very angry today !
ironically, when i was at junior school in the 50's we all had that haircut

Deep breath Mikey, keep your hair on!

agchristie...that Guest House...I have mentioned it loads of time on here !
Ridiculous, the poor young fella has no choice of what his Mum decides is a good hair do... mines short back and sides not due to pinky blinders (Never seen it) however She should sent him into school wearing a Burka and see what the school has to say about that.
Until now I've never heard of Peaky Blinders. What is it? Or what are they?
Question Author
mikey is so angry he is getting confused ... calm down dear it's only a guest house ... or haircut!
It seems he ( mum and/or maybe Dad?) was given a choice- get it cut to a uniform length or be suspended for a week. Mum seems to have chosen the suspension as she said "I can't fix it without shaving it all off which I don't want to do.'

It seems it's a good school. If she doesn't like the policy I'm sure there is a school that is satisfactory or requires improvement which has less less strict policies.

I think the best way to deal with these things is by discussion rather than going to the press and taking a stance against your child's school and exposing him to publicity.

Mikey,...it wasn't agchristie who mentioned it, was me ;)
I had 5 comments removed when I mentioned it yesterday, then the whole post disappeared. Seems strange as he hasn't been arrested. Yet.

I've looked through some photo's on twitter ... some very similar haircuts on other boys. Looks like a battle of wills.
