I have just heard John Humphies interview Julie Hambleton and an ex-IRA man on the Today Program. One of the most shocking interviews I have ever heard.

Lets hope the Coroner will rule to open the inquest into the deaths of 21 people in the Birmingham pub bombings today. After over 40 years, the poor people of Birmingham need some progress.

//The man known as Belfast Jimmy, the unit’s leader, is now in his 50s //

....which, by simple maths, means he was a teenager at the time of the bombings, right?

The Inquests are to be re-opened apparently ::::

Interview with Chris Mullin in February:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/10/birmingham-bombings-police-ira

// Indeed there is reason to believe that the police were rather better informed about what happened than they have ever admitted. At least one of the IRA men in custody talked. In the autumn of 1987 someone with access to the Special Branch archive provided the Granada television programme World in Action with a five-page precis of interviews with an IRA man arrested after the bombings who purported to name one of the bombers. So far as I can see, no action was taken.
...
Two of the bombers are dead and, unless the remaining two were to come forward and confess, there is no prospect of their being brought to justice. //
Question Author
Gromit....I think Mullin was right in the last paragraph above ^^^^

But I don't think it unreasonable to expect that the Police's handling of the whole affair shouldn't be investigated fully.

Hillsborough has shown us that justice will always win in the end, if enough pressure is exerted and kept up.
Mikey,
An inquest will not touch on the police errors/botch/bungling/crimes. It will instead concentrate on the cause of death, and possible responsibility for those deaths. The Police's role in helping the culprits evade justice will not be looked at, unfortunately. There have been 4 investigations into the West Midlands Police actions in this case. The results of Devon and Cornwall Police's investigation into the case has had a 75 year restriction imposed on its conclusion.
Question Author
Gromit.....I agree that it doesn't look too promising, but the same was said about Hillsborough, and persistent pressure eventually paid off in the end, as I fully expect that some arrests will be made shortly.

By the way, Chris Mullin has written a very interesting article in today's Guardian, and I admire this man very much :::::
