There is a time and place for everything, why do the gay community find the need to flaunt their sexuality at every opportunity?

/// Dahlia....straight people have been proposing in public for years and years. ///

/// I fail to see why gay people, now that they can get married, can't do the same. ///

When will it finely sink into you mikey.

This is no disgust regarding two gay people proposing to each other in public.

This is all about a gay policeman breaking ranks to propose to his partner.

Why didn't he wait until the parade was over? Not only a deserter from the ranks but also an opportunistic exhibitionist.

If he was off-duty, ie in his own time, from what ranks was he breaking?
Ah but 'Breaking ranks' makes a much better headline than some of the others...

'Touching moment'
'Heart-warming moment'
'Officer proposes'
No matter which newspapers reported it, AOG, you'd have still found a way to post a thread with a negative spin...
Is it likely that an off-duty police officer would parade in uniform without the Chief Constable's consent knowing that he or she could be identified readily?

/// If you hadn't reported the outrage that you and the DM felt, none of us would be discussing this issue this morning. ///

I don't seem to be half as outraged as you seem to be, and once again please get it right where in the Daily Mail do they say they are 'OUTRAGED'?

/// If you insist on playing with fire, you shouldn't be at all surprised when you get your fingers burnt. ///

Perhaps you would care to convey that little piece of wisdom to those policeman also.

Perhaps then they would not have had their actions plastered all over the media for others to discuss on a news site?

And isn't that the primary intention of such a site, to debate a particular news event, or are only certain sensitive subjects not allowed to be debated?

I wrote:

"Some from your generation are simply not comfortable with gay people."

That's 100% true...it's not presumptuous in any way.

/// Dahlia....yes, I may have been a trifle hasty there...please accept my apology.... I misread your comments it would seem ! ///

Seems you are always in the habit of doing that, perhaps I also deserve an apology?
I'm glad there have been two long threads on this issue, often I wonder if some may have shifted slightly in their ways, usually not but still it's good to know something about those you converse with.

The lovely sights yesterday have still left me smiling, so well done to them.
In answer to AOG's second OP question...I think that this year, in particular the Pride marches all over the world are important, because it shows that we can thumb our noses at those who wish us harm or harbour ill-intent.

With regards to the copper breaking rank...if this were a Remembrance Day march, I would agree with you AOG.

If this were at a funeral for another service officer, I would agree also.

But the Pride march is all about celebration, and as you can see from those who witnessed it, it brought joy and celebration.

This was a marriage proposal. It was something good for heaven's sake.

"But then in those days we lived in much more dignified times."

Yep...in the days of chemical castration, ruined lives, jail terms, social exclusion.

Very dignified.

I hope we never return to that form of dignity.

/// "Why are some canned drinks so full of sugar" and then posting a link about a story about Coca-Cola...and then saying, "But I didn't mention Coca-Cola." ///

That would be because I was using a story about Coca-Cola, to start a thread about the amount of sugar in canned drinks, but at the same time not naming the brand Coca-Cola in any way.

Good try but not good enough.
Pathetic.
AOG

That's exactly what you're doing.

You asked:

"why do the gay community find the need to flaunt their sexuality at every opportunity?"

And then you posted a link to a story about a marriage proposal at the Pride March.

So if the question has nothing to do with Pride, what were you referring to when you asked that?

Are you saying that gay people should propose marriage in private?

I read some of your threads AOG and am frequently taken aback by your bitterness and dislike of so much that goes on in the world, is there no joy in your heart?

I sincerely hope you are not the bitter, twisted bigot that you portray on AB.

I wish the happy couple a long and happy marriage.

Yes I agree gays were treated in a deployable manner, but like African slavery that is all in the past and we should now move on and forget the past (as some are forever telling us)

There is no need for this outward show of exhibitionism in public.

/// Anyway, its just a bit of fun to liven up our drab little lives ! ///

You may lead a drab little life, but please don't speak for others.
// I sincerely hope you are not the bitter, twisted bigot that you portray on AB.//

Nobody could be that bigoted in real life Eccles!!
But but...heterosexuals do this all the time.

My mate proposed to his GF on a plane and got the pilot to announce it. The passengers applauded. Maybe the pilot should have been sacked! Although, as I suspect in this case, it was pre-arranged!
