There is a time and place for everything, why do the gay community find the need to flaunt their sexuality at every opportunity?

"He was off duty, the same as the other 80 officers that were taking part in the Pride. "

Then he should not have been wearing his uniform. If he was "representing the Met" then he was on duty.

"The reality is that if the Policeman had been straight, and he had proposed to his girlfriend, we wouldn't be hearing a peep out of the DM and consequently, not a peep out of AOG either. "

You certainly would from me. If this had been a "straight" parade (perish the thought - I imagine it would not have been allowed, but no matter) the officer, if in uniform "representing the Met", should not have used the opportunity for self-publicity. It brings the police force into disrepute.
You rely heavily on "What if......" scenarios, AOG.

The facts are as they have already been presented to you.

///But know that is not the gay way, it has got to be "I will do it, because this is what I now can" ///

Sweeping generalsations....much? LoL
//But know that is not the gay way, it has got to be "I will do it, because this is what I now can" //

The gay way? Please tell me what the gay way is!! I am sure our gay members would be interested so that they can ensure they are behaving in the right way!!
More drivel AOG...the chap was off-duty. When soldiers march after returning from a six month tour of duty abroad, presumably that are on-duty, not off-duty.

You should choose your analogies a little more carefully !
But he wasn't, was he? He was at a gay pride event that supports gay people.

You haven't commented on the Peterborough police officer that proposed to his girlfriend whilst in uniform
This has not brought the police in to disrepute, NJ, rather the opposite.
I agree with New Judge .
I think sadly too much ,along with a smidgeon of let's turn a blind eye to it as he's gay , has been made of it .
In my opinion as previously stated , grand gestures are not appropriate when you're working .
Such a pity that gay people feel the need in this day and age to fly in the face of supposed convention by going against what is the perceived norm .
If everyone wants to be equally accepted then everyone should behave in an equally accepted manner .
He wasn't working. He was in the parade, parading. On duty officers were working
What about the Peterborough officer?
Dahlia...."Such a pity that gay people feel the need in this day and age to fly in the face of "supposed convention" by going against what is the perceived norm"

Its been a long time since I read any quite as bigoted as that !
He shouldn't have been in uniform if that's the case .
What if he had been black and gay ? LOL

Neither would it be in the Daily Mail but also broadcast on national television.

But perhaps it would have been if a heterosexual couple of police officers had been spotted having a snog in a police car.

This was obviously a staged Gay Acceptance exercise, nothing more.
anneasquith...even worse...he could have been black, gay and Muslim !

Daily Mail readers up and down the country would be spontaneously combusting !
Really Mikey ?
Well I'll discuss this with my child who's gay , I'm sure he'll laugh at the thought of me being called bigoted !
Even he gets sick fed up of being classed as different , even he thinks the people are far too PC aware to his detriment .
All he wants to do is lead his life as equally as everyone else , being gay to him is personal , it's not a lifestyle choice , he doesn't bang on about it like straight people do .
Astounded :)

//The officers were among around 80 to take part in the march, *representing* the Met.///

The Peterborough Officer was not part of the OP, if you wish to discuss that one start a new thread rather than try and hijack this one.
Dahlia, none of the police officers that were parading in that parade in their uniforms (at least 80) were on duty. They had volunteered at the request of the Met.

The armed forces also paraded in the parade in full uniform.
Dahlia...then why did you post

"Such a pity that gay people feel the need in this day and age to fly in the face of "supposed convention" by going against what is the perceived norm"

What "perceived norm" are you on about ?
No.
I am not hijacking this one, Baldric. Others have asked what would have happened if a straight officer proposed to his girlfriend in uniform. It has already happened, in a flash mob in Peterborough
