Is it not a bit too much to ask of descendants of Jewish refugees?

Are you seriously trying to suggest that the great grandchildren of German Jews are somehow obliged...

...no - hang on. This is a tongue-in-cheek thread, right?

Surely?

/// Britian is a small island, it is true, but small countries can't stretch their boundaries either, so that point is irrelevant. ///

It is not irrelevant as you have incorrect stated, because I'm not talking about the number of people per square acre, I am talking about feeding them etc.

You also have not 'seen' the horrors of WWs first hand you may have personally heard experiences of them, which is a whole site different.

And war experiences are not the sole property of our brave fighting armed forces, but also those endured by the civilian populations, and unless you yourself has been personally been there, you are not really in a position to comment.

AOG - You were, at best, a small child during the war years.....being old does not give you the monopoly on having lived through 'war-times', you know.

These are interesting/difficult times at the moment and people are making snap-decisions out of fear. I'm sure that things will settle down soon enough, and if the Jews feel sufficiently reconciled with Germany to return (there are fewer alive, on both sides, with direct experience of those dreadful times) then I'd say it was up to them to decide...
AOG to HC, //You also have not 'seen' the horrors of WWs first hand //

What does that have to do with you expecting the Jews to be 'Forever Grateful'?
How far back do we go with being "forever grateful"? I'm descended from Huguenot refugees on one side. I am sure I am truly grateful and shall be forever for the sacrifice that pure bred English people suffered during the 17th century.
I expect you'll be skipping off to France in the not too distant future then Barmaid? Shame on you! ;o)
"Most of these people (especially the British/Irish) won't be emigrating anywhere. They simply want dual nationality, with the obvious benefits that will bring."

Quite so, db. Dual nationality (of any combination) should not be permitted. You pays your money and takes your choice.

But good luck to those people who are genuinely moving out (if indeed there is any truth to the story). The UK has decided to leave the EU; they want to live in the EU so are doing something about it. At least they are not marching round Parliament Square complaining
I agree they shouldn't be allowed to adopt dual nationality - but apart from that, fine. I have my doubts that the frantic exodus is quite as desperate as the newspaper would have it though.

/// AOG - You were, at best, a small child during the war years..... ///

You have no idea how old I was during WW2.

/// being old does not give you the monopoly on having lived through 'war-times', you know. ///

It may not be so if one lives in some other countries throughout the world, but it certainly does in this country.
AOG, you've skirted my question. What does you having lived through the war years have to do with you expecting the Jews to be "Forever grateful"?

Grateful'? ///

It has nothing to do with it, and neither have I said it has.

If you read the whole of a person's post instead of cherry picking certain quotes out of context you also would realise it hasn't.

As Britain entered WWII 77 years ago, you'd have to be 95 to have lived through it as an adult. You're looking good, AOG! :D
> Why Should The Descendants Of The People Who Fled Germany, Now Wish To Desert The Country That Took Them In, Now Only To Return Back To Germany?

Because Germany has moved on since the war ...
AOG, I'm not cherry picking. I just wondered why you mentioned it, and since you've now said it has nothing to do with it, I'm still wondering why you mentioned it.

Are you purposely trying to be obnoxious towards me today, or are you running out of opponents?
This isn't really about one's age or whether or not you have experienced or lived through something.

I agree with the premise of 'Never forget' but to expect eternal gratitude and obligation rather than deciding what and where is best for you and your family is something wholly different and quite odd.
AOG, obnoxious? Where? I'll ignore your rudeness and assume you didn't like my question.

/// Britain refused to take in far, far more Jews than they allowed in - and then only on
Britain refused to take in far, far more Jews than they allowed in - and then only on condition they were financially supported by the Jewish communities in the UK and not the public purse.
A lot of those children Britain allowed in had to leave their parents behind because Britain would not allow the adults in. ///

/// Unfortunately just like today this is only a small Island and we couldn't take the whole of Europe's Jews in.

But then it was worse than today, we were approaching a World War and would have hardly enough resources for our own people.

But then you have never been through what we had to endure. ///

/// How many generations should that obligation last for, AOG? ///

/// Obviously you have never heard of the term;
"FOREVER GRATEFUL". ///

I wasn't being rude, you were deliberately goading me, for no apparent reason, as I have gone to great lengths to prove to you.
