A lot of the Jewish people applying for German citizenship under the rules will be descendants of those who fled the Nazis and they want to remain in the EU.

Ireland is experiencing a surge in applications for citizenship following Brexit, by Brits of Irish descent who want to stay in the EU. There really is little difference.

I would have thought that with the surge of Neo-Nazi groups in certain EU countries, Germany would be the last place in which they thought they would be safe.

Whether their fears are well founded who knows because quite frankly there is a huge swathe of uncertainty across the Nation.

Britain refused to take in far, far more Jews than they allowed in - and then only on condition they were financially supported by the Jewish communities in the UK and not the public purse.
A lot of those children Britain allowed in had to leave their parents behind because Britain would not allow the adults in.

I would have thought so, much like one helping out and then taking in some unfortunates who had happened to be flooded out of their home, only for them to leave you when your home then became flooded.

Unfortunately just like today this is only a small Island and we couldn't take the whole of Europe's Jews in.

But then it was worse than today, we were approaching a World War and would have hardly enough resources for our own people.

The Jews are under no obligation whatsoever to us. They came, they integrated, they worked they built businesses, and they were never a burden on this society. If some of them want to go and live elsewhere, that's their choice - but I think the newspaper is making a bit of a meal of it - just for effect. No surprise there.

Britian is a small island, it is true, but small countries can't stretch their boundaries either, so that point is irrelevant.

I have seen the horrors of the WWs at first hand - my father fought in WWII, his three brothers were killed in the same war. His father was killed in WWI. My other grandfather was hugely disabled during WWI but lived in great pain until he was 91, his son (my uncle) lost an arm during WWII. So I do know about the deprivation and horrors of the Wars.
