I quite like Peterborough......have quite a few relatives there so I visit often.....
We did a Treasure Trail around Peterborough a few months ago and it was very pleasant......though I suppose it's often how you yourself are with other people that colours your view of people and places....x
You cant see any swans because our residents (Bert and Ethel) are up the other end of the lake with their cygnets. When I pop over to the pub later, no doubt the two residents there will be about with their brood of 10.

No doubt you live here and that is your perception, Divebuddy. I was brought up near here, went to college here, taught at the Regional College, got my first job here - my perception is quite different.
Barmaid.....your area Thorpe was ALWAYS upmarket where the rich of Peterborough lived.....yes.Oundle Uppingham, Stamford have always been pleasant places.
Nothing new there.
But New England, Fletton and one i have forgotten which were "habitable" are now "ghettos"........due to immigration.
Barmaid...."sloppy and lazy reporting"....my thoughts exactly....you could add sensationalist as well to that list.

I could make a report of the worst housing estate in Swansea, and pretend it represented the City in general and I would be wrong.
mikey.....Peterborough is a widespread city....the part that I am talking about is only a part of the City and whatever the statistics show......is full of immigrants.
Very few immigrants in Barmaid's area...I would guess.
Sqad, those rows and rows of terraced houses......, hmmm, I know quite a lot more about them than I am prepared to admit. ;)
Barmaid...LOL...I know you do.....;-)
All towns/cities have crap areas, not always full of immigrants!

Two doors down are three houses all occupied by asian families. And very nice they are too. One of the ladies brings me little foodie presents - although we dont understand each other that well.

some people see half-full glasses and some see them half-empty... but really, if my full glass was in fact 84.4% empty. I might be moved to protest on the grounds that this isn't what "full" means.
"According to the 2011 Census, Peterborough still has an overwhelmingly white, British population....84.4%."

"Unless the census facts are wrong...."

Quite so, Mikey. But before you rely too much on it I think you should ask yourself how many immigrants do you suppose take part in the census.
My Polish neighbours are lovely, they bring us beer round :-)
And my next door neighbour's Irish neighbour is a lovely lady.....☺
Lol, Gness, so is mine :-)

In the 60s and 70s Peterborough was known for its number of recounts at election time. The had an MP whose majority was usually in single figures. Actually he was the father of Sue Nichols from Coronation Street.
There's actually quite a lot of Irish in this street. When I was young they had their own areas. They progressed in life through hard work and started buying in better areas.
NJ....(19:08)...I have no idea how many people in Peterborough completed their Census forms, but around the rest of the country most people did.

From my experience of working on the 2011 Census, very few people failed to compete their Census forms.

But if non-completion, amongst non-white families were to be so large, as to skew these figures enough to make a difference, then many tens of thousands would have needed to have done so, which doesn't seem to be terribly believable. I am sure that if the Census was suspected of being that inaccurate, we would have heard about by now.

If I can sum this AP "report" up, its a very sloppy piece journalism indeed, rambling and full of holes you put your fist through.

But its the sort of thing that political opportunists fall upon, like manna from heaven.
