Just read that the religion also does not inspire or exhort its adherents to violence!! Well this gentleman was not described as a terrorist by the prosecutor but the mayor says he may have psychological problems.
Mayors of villes are renowned for their instant fix it diagnosis of mental issues I am sure.

I have opined at length on other threads, that using a twisted interpretation of religious faith is never a valid reason for violence - not matter by whom it is committed - so yes, I will be delighted to concur that religion played a part in this man's actions.
But it's not that simple is it?
It is not 'religion' that played a part, it is this unbalanced individual's personal interpretation of his faith that made him behave this way.
That is why continual combinations of lazy journalism and scare-mongering leads sections of the public to link all Islam with all terrorism, which is patently not the case.
