The police however still have time to appease the crowd.

Consider rioting and criminal behaviour at large sporting events.Football for instance.Alcohol was banned following the riots after the 1980 Scottish Cup Final.Clubs whose fans misbehaved were banned from subsequent competitions or had to play behind closed doors.
The point I'm making is that the authorities took action and lessons were learnt.
The Notting Hill Carnival is an event where no lessons are learnt despite supposed new strategies and technology.Statistics don't lie.
Just what would it take for the event to be banned? After all, everything has a tolerance level. Is it 1000 arrests? More than 20 stabbings per carnival? How many deaths?
I feel sorry for those residents and businesses who moved to the area pre-1964...

Randymarsh > We do all know that the Carnival brings a lot of love and fun as well don't we?
I'm sure it does but where are the learning curves from the negative aspects? Arrests have increased etc etc
The answer is not,it seems, from more policing, having the SAS deployed.
I suggest the tactical thinkers rethink their tactics..

Some are having second thoughts:
Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said the event was being "hijacked" by troublemakers.
'Bank Holiday battleground'
He said: "Last year we had an officer stabbed. This year colleagues were assaulted, abused and spat at. Forty-three were injured - with eight needing hospital treatment. How can that be right? It's completely and utterly unacceptable.
"A seemingly growing number of people appear intent on hijacking this Carnival and turning it into a Bank Holiday battleground. The Glastonbury music festival had 40 arrests this year. Notting Hill had 10 times that amount.
"The organisers need to understand that this event cannot carry on regardless. I think many Londoners will wonder whether the significant amount of taxpayers' money spent policing this event is frankly worth it."

/// What money did it generate?, that usually makes the difference. ///
/// How many millions per stabbing was generated? ///
Oh so it is all down to money generated is it?
Don't bother about lost and ruined lives just as long as we reap in the lolly.
Perhaps the folks down that neck of the woods should consider open street knife stabbing matches, after all there are some very skilled at that sport.

/// Dare I say if it was a nice white carnival that AOG would not have so much of an
issue!! ///
Out comes the race card once again.
Well let me retaliate to this accusation, if it was "a nice white carnival" there wouldn't be problems on such a scale, as this "not so very nice black carnival".

Mmmm, some culture, some tradition.

Well, the Police post-briefing meeting would be very interesting.
No doubt they are considering it all good job done. After all, they made a record number of arrests and confiscated a plethora of drugs and weapons.
A large number of officers 'dread' the event and yet many of the photos would not suggest that.
I would like to know where the lessons were learnt from any previous year from the policing aspect.

/// Lol AOG you are funny, but if only you had the backbone to stand up and say what you meant instead of pussyfooting around and making suggestions then people may have more respect for you! ///
I will ignore your insults once again, but I feel that I must take you up on your accusation that I pussy foot around.
I do not pussy foot around anything, I leave that to those who choose to toe the PC line.
I have in the past and will always continue to do so, "CALL A SPADE A SPADE".
