What was the policeman supposed to say? "Alright sir if you don't want to step out of the car, drive safely and have a good day".

When I was receiving careers advice at school,I and a lot of my peers had aspirations of joining the police force. This wasn't that long ago but I would not touch this profession with a bargepole now even if I was offered the job on a plate. There are a lot of brave cops out there who literally put their lives on the line in some of the difficult situations they face....

Mikey...let's keep this simple.

The cop lost his rag because the guy refused to get out of the car.
If he had moved out of the car at the first request the cop would not have become irate.

Just do as you are told.

/// I agree with naomi.......just get out of the car at the first request........tell me mikey...what would have been the problem? ///

More important, what would you have done mikey?
AOG....there is no evidence that the Policeman was in any danger himself. There is no sign that the chap in the car had a gun.

The Policemen should have called for assistance if he had felt threatened.

The Policeman is clearly in the wrong here, and thank goodness that there was film of this incident.
all the old lags should come out and explain the law is on this one

request - obey - doesnt fit - request implies a choice and Leon's choice was not to comply
order - obey is more appropriate

why do some no longer have to obey a police order ?
Ah, I think it has to be lawfully given

The upholder of the Law thought Leon ( for it was he ) was driving without a licence altho Leon tells him foo de window he has a licence

and that should be basis ( or was anyway ) for a lawful arrest ( suspicion of a crime even tho one hasnt been committed ) -
but he wasnt arresting .....

will the police pay for the damage ?
will the policeman get "advice" from his superiors ?
will the police take notice that their own video seemed to have been turned off [so no record hur hur hur] but one was taken anyway. And confidence in police procedure was so low that it was put on the internet immediately.

What was the policeman supposed to say? "Alright sir if you don't want to step out of the car, drive safely and have a good day".
is the policeman required to wear a sign - " short tempered - watch out hacking policeman on duty "

or say - get out or I will smash your windscreen and make it undrivable ?

blimey there are a lot of obedient sheep on this thread this morning

what is wrong wiv " Good morning officer - how can I help you from inside this car ? "
Mikey, //The Policeman is clearly in the wrong here//

They were both wrong, but had the driver obeyed the instruction the incident wouldn't have occurred.

It is similar to the arrest procedure, some are willing to be handcuffed and taken away, while some choose to resist arrest most violently needing for about four cops to pin them down to the ground.

Then if that person dies from a heart attack, all hell is let loose.

What these people must learn is to abide by the law and things are much easier.
"Ummmm has it correct here. If I was faced with this mad Policeman, who was clearly out of control, I would sit tight and call 999 ! " - so you'd call for more policemen mikey? Right oh!
Sqad....This wasn't Dixon of Dock Green !

There is no evidence that the Policeman would not have lost his temper if the chap had got out of the car. The man clearly terrified and felt threatened.

Why did the Policeman need the chap to get out of his car ? As I understand Police training, a possible suspect is a lot easier and safer to handle if he is left in the car, while reinforcements arrive.

I am not sure why some people on here are reluctant to castigate this cop ?
What actually is the law here? I mean do you have to obey a policeman without question? I assumed they had to arrest you first.
I suppose we don't know how many dealings TG has had with the police. But Leon might!!
Mikey, the policeman has been criticised - I've criticised him - but I won't join you in exonerating the driver. He was wrong.
mikey

\\The Policemen should have called for assistance if he had felt threatened. \\

You mean surround the car with the SWAT team with police marksman on the rooftops surround our friend in the car?
OR do you mean send for the equivalent of a specialist from the FBI Behavioral Unit from Quantico to "coax" him out?

Bottom line.......how do you get this guy out of the car and our friendly officer provided a solution.
Maybe these statistics were a factor in Leon Fontana's reluctance to get out?

If police training says it's easier and safer to leave the suspect in the car and this suspect wanted to stay in the car, why did the policeman go against his training to get the man out?

/// AOG....there is no evidence that the Policeman was in any danger himself. There is no sign that the chap in the car had a gun. ///

No one is saying that the policeman was fearing for his life.

/// The Policemen should have called for assistance if he had felt threatened. ///

Oh and the perpetrator would have hung around until police support came?

/// The Policeman is clearly in the wrong here, and thank goodness that there was film of this incident. ///

No the policeman was clearly not in the wrong, he was just trying to do his job.

And why do you think that there was film of this incident, it was obviously a staged job, seeing how far one can go, trying to ignore the law.

The sooner all officers are supplely with their own cameras the better, perhaps then it will put a stop to all these staged scenarios.
\\I am not sure why some people on here are reluctant to castigate this cop\

Because "some people" feel that although his action may be described as "exaggerated"......."some people" feel it was justifiable.
// Bottom line.......how do you get this guy out of the car and our friendly officer provided a solution.//

yeah quite right - lucky the fella ( oops upholder of the Law ) didnt have a tin opener, gun or fire axe innit ?

and yeah Sqad you are speaking from experience innit ?
when you were a kissy kissy surgeon and said to little nursey
Scalpel !
and she said 'I dont have one today sir' - I only have a Gigli saw, a cuticle remover or Joll's thyroid forceps

you would spring back and say - O never mind - I can provide a solution. Here is the theatre fire ax I will use that instead ! but I will damn well get inside this patient somehow

( and she would say something like "golly that is a big one!" - or perhaps "I havent sterilised it from the time you used it last week.")

Bottom line is that we all have to obey the loo-er innit ?

/// I am not sure why some people on here are reluctant to castigate this cop ? ///

Perhaps because most are good law abiding citizens, and unlike some don't possess an inbuilt hatred towards the police.
"And why do you think that there was film of this incident, it was obviously a staged job, seeing how far one can go, trying to ignore the law. " perhaps in your part of the world it is common for windscreens to be staved in by the police but not where I live and I would have filmed it using a camera on my 'phone, as it appears was done in this case.
