"The majority of Scots don't want division but want to remain in Europe -"
The best thing they can do then is, before Brexit is formalised, relocate to one of the 27 remaining EU nations. There are only about 5m of them in total. Assuming that the "majority" who want to remain in Europe number about 3m there should be plenty of room. Frau Merkel said only last year that all were welcome to come to Germany (though that may have applied only to those from Affrica, Asia and the Middle East). They have managed to absorb about 1m people, principally those with few skills and without a pot to urinate in. Taking in a few Scots (who are currently entitled to settle elsewhere in the EU) should present no problem. If there's no room there for them they can always try their luck in some of the other vibrant and thriving economies of the EU - e.g. Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia or Slovakia.

The six countries you list in your final sentence, NJ, may not have over-vibrant economies at this time, but economies rise as well as fall. However, they do share one other condition...independence! On what possible grounds do people such as yourself believe Scotland be be incapable of surviving in a similar state?

Oh I'm sure Scotland would survive in a similar state. Quite whether it would be more desireable to be like, say, Greece (25% unemployment, 50% youth unemployment, GDP down 15% since 2011, government debt 176%, elected government deposed by Euromaniacs) than being part of the UK is questionable. However, if you believe that any member of the EU enjoys "independence" I think our definitions of that word might differ slightly. Then there is, of course, the tiresome detail that an independent Scotland would be almost certain to be denied EU membership.
As I've said before, I don't believe Scotland has any more claim to independence than Liverpool or the Isle of Wight but I'm not particularly fussed one way or the other. I just wish they'd either get on and do it or stop harping on about it.

NJ, has either Liverpool or the IOW ever had its own Parliament, Monarch or legal system? Is there any demand for them to be outwith the UK? For someone who claims not to be fussed about what Scotland chooses to do, you appear to be ready with your contempt of its future and its right to choose that future.

who said he was anne?
Murdo: the vote was a simple binary choice for the UK. You cannot single out convenient subsets of that to suit your purpose. The EU referendum is unrelated to the "independence" referendum and one cannot be used to induce a rerun of the other.
The Scotts don't want "independence" anyway they said so 2 years ago.

//the argument is that the first vote WOULDN'T have been to remain part of the UK is the Scots electorate had known that they were voting to remain part of a country which didn't want to be a part of the EU. //
But now the people of Scotland know the EU is not waiting with bated breath to welcome an independent Scotland .... what then? I can't help thinking that this second referendum, in one way or another, will prove to be an embarrassment to the Scots.
