This is the reason this 'trade' is so costly. The entire cargo in that truck will have to be destroyed and the carrier will pay the cost as well as a fine for each person found in his vehicle. But remember only 6% of trucks get checked on arrival in the UK, it is estimated that over 90% of stowaways are never detected!, so just disappear into the 'black economy'.
Food products can totally legally be sold as 'UK' produced or 'Scottish/Irish produced ' if any part of the production process is performed in the UK/ Ireland.
So they just need to import the food from anywhere in the world and repack or sort it in the UK for it to be fully legally sold as 'UK/ Scottish/ Irish' produce.
Just look at how much beef product is labeled 'Scottish Beef' when only a tiny % really is reared , slaughtered and packed in Scotland! All they need is a packing station in the UK to use the 'UK produced' label , what you need to look for is 'UK grown' if you really want home produced food.
Another contaminated load because of these scum, who pays the cost? who get the fine?
TWR, As I have just said, the driver pays the fine and the company who owns the truck stands the cost of having their load destroyed as well as losing it. This is one of the main complaints the haulage companies have with the system! The government do nothing but rely on the drivers / transport companies to do the job for them. Having said that inspecting every truck would slow down the import system so much it would be uneconomic to ever import anything!.
Eddie, I've pulled Fridge Trailers, someone is involved with putting these people in the back, there are 2 locking bars on each door and they are supposed to be locked and sealed, some one has opened the door for this lot.
Is the use of the word Scum really necessary TWR?

These human beings after all!
This all started back when the vile foreign South American tuber low-life vegetable scum was brought to our shores by Sir Walter Raleigh the first place. There was nothing wrong with the indigenous English oat but they let potatoes in and time goes on and now look what's happened.
trt must be disappointed that the thread has gone off track from imported spuds to migrants
-- answer removed --
TWR yes I accept that. but the situation is that the driver is personally responsible for any one who is found in the back of his truck.
It has been known within the haulage Ind for Veg to be transported to Europe then returned the same route back into the UK, not sure what the reason but it does get done.

Is it a crossword clue 'PIS----D', if so I can't see it?
My spellcheck can't find anything to fit that pattern
I used to pick up trailers from many UK Ports Eddie ( Not Dover) the seals Could be removed & then replaced if you knew how to do it, you had to be on the ball especially with the cargo inside Eg / PCs, Electrics etc.
It doesn't matter what was inside the lorry. If it wasn't Aunt Bessie's spuds it would be something else.

These people will, by now, be safely ensconced in some sort of taxpayer funded accommodation (those that are not receiving "free" medical care, that is) and they will remain in that cossetted state for the rest of their days. We know the lorry in which they were found came from France; as illegal immigrants they should have been returned there forthwith. But that, I suppose, is asking too much.
Do you want me to get barred Balders? not going to happen again.
Well then stop trying to get past the filter!
'Someone has opened the door for this lot' If the truck really has secure locks then only the driver could let them in!
There are many drivers who will allow people to hide in their truck, knowing there is only a 6% chance of being checked at customs, and that they can claim ignorance if they are found out. £1000 a person is a huge temptation!!

I don't see why you would be banned, nothing fits that pattern.
TWR if the seals can be removed then what is the point in them?
Surely the answer to the problem is to have fully secure seals that can only be removed by the driver or customs/ police?
Once sealed Eddie, by rights only 2 sources can open it, Customs & the customer, the seal now is different to the days I started transporting containers but are on the same principle.
