Indigenous people are willing to pick them if the pay & conditions are right. It's only when one wishes to underpay to keep costs down and make out you have a viable commercial proposition that the issue arises.

Maybe cheap imports of roast spuds mean that folk are unwilling to pay a fair price for them here.

But that said, I suspect there are plenty of spuds grown in the UK.

I tried this product once and didn't like the coating so wouldn't buy them anyway. If the potatoes are grown in the UK they could easily be frozen here too. I'll stick to homemade I think.

I've had a quick rootle through my freezers - Morrison's sliced peppers, produce of Spain; Tesco's Finest roast parsnips, UK.

I have Aunt Bessie's frozen chips and roast parsnips, neither give the country of origin

They are too nice for me to not buy them. I'd challenge anyone to make a better homemade roastie without spending ages faffing about doing it.

They are not a patch on mine, Prudie.

It does seem crazy the haul tatties from abroad to make frozen spuds when we could easily do it ourselves ... think of the planet people, think of the planet. (there's some lazy ABers so there is)

Prudie we have lots of unemployed but they are not willing to pick fruits or veg for the national minimum wage, but immigrants are so why shouldn't they have the jobs?
