This is very sad news indeed.....Cohen seems to have been around for my entire life.

I can recall exactly where I was when I first heard " Bird on a Wire" and then buying the LP, also a book of his poetry.

Goodness...don't know what else to say.

RIP Leonard.
A question I wish to ask even though slightly off track.

How can one be given the Best Answer when it was the first one entered and awarded at the same time as the thread was posted?

Surely that brings the whole idea of the award into ridicule?
RIP
Yep ( slightly of track). Such memories rip LC.
R.I.P Leonard Cohen another sad loss in 2016.
because at the time it was posted it was the best answer, aog, there being no competition.

The OP is free to change it later if he wishes, but most of us just award it once.

You may be the only one around here who knew the world without Leonard?
So sad. I loved his songs and the man. We were only discussing him about a week ago on here. RIP Leonard.
My first introduction was when my older brother bought the album 'songs from a room', I used to listen to it a lot and was very moved by the lyrics.
Among my favorites were 'Suzanne' and 'bird on the wire'.

A sad sad loss
Was just listening to Leonard and Jennifer Warnes singing Joan of Arc a couple of days ago. Love that song and also Bird on a Wire. RIP Leonard
RIP Leonard, safe travel X
Actually very chuffed to receive the BA ....thanks mikey for the honour :)

Cohen's death has effected more than I thought. I have met many people today and mentioned his death a lot......most people said

" Leonard ....Leonard who ? "

Not just the younger crowd, but people of my own age....how sad !
He was a legend.

Mikey @ 19:04, I think you will find rsvp was thanking murraymints for her link on first page.

RIP Leonard, my Wife loved you.
Well I have to say, Mikey that he's been around for all of my life (since I am not yet 82). But I can genuinely say that until today I had never, ever heard of him. I caught news of his death on the eight o'clock news and they suggested that some of his work was not so well received when first published. They then played a clip of one of his numbers and I immediately understood why that was so. Handy to have available if you have to arrange a funeral and the deceased had not made his choice of music for his departure known, but that's the best I can say. So unless I had heard the news this morning, I too would have said "Leonard? Leonard who?"
RIP Leonard Cohen.
