Why Are So Many In The Arts And Music Industry Lefties?
It seems nearly all of them are liberal lefties, why is that? Is it because they are usually wealthy so they feel guilty and feel they think it shows their caring credentials?

/// Andy....I think it was an extraordinary error to link the arts and LGBT, and it can't all be put down to the ignorance of old age. ///
/// Its 2017, not 1957 for goodness sake ! ///
I would have thought it would have be more covered up back in those 'old days'.
Or now in 2017 do we no longer have LGBT persons linked to the Arts?

AOG....we have LGBT people linked to every walk of life in Britain, and the rest of the world come to that.
But they are actors that are gay, politicians that are gay, carpenters that are gay, Policemen who are gay, etc, etc. They are people defined by their professions and occupations, not their sexuality. We don't have any gay actors, just actors that may be gay.
Can't you see how offensive your ignorant comments are ?

/// 'Large percentage', is that a majority? ///
No I did not say that.
/// How and why have you swung this thread to be about the sexuality of others? ///
I was simply answering the question, "Why Are So Many In The Arts And Music Industry Lefties"?
And maybe providing a reason, taking into consideration the political thinking of such groups.

Perhaps they have had the opportunity to mix with people from all walks of life, all colours, creeds and nationalities. Maybe doing entertainment work for charity and visiting charitable concerns has given them more awareness of today's problems.

AOG - ///// It's actually not a pre-requisite to possess a minority sexual orientation in order to be admitted into the arts forum - whatever The Daily Mail tries to say!! ///
I have never said this, or your inference that the Daily Mail has somehow brain washed me into that sort of thinking, neither has it to do with my advanced age.
Just read about certain celebrity stars in any of the various sources of the media, and although it would be stupid to state (and which I never have) that all persons in the various arts come under the LBGT category, a very large percentages do.
I am not prepared at this stage to name any except to say one is in the habit of wearing a pink beret, and we all know what minority sexual orientation he belongs to and the side of politics he follows. //
My comment about the Daily Mail was tongue-in-cheek - obviously it fell on stony ground ... again.

ladybirder - //Andy, are you saying that those on the left on the political spectrum are the only people with a social conscience? //
I am generalising, which is not always a good idea, but in my experience, it is a safe generalisation that you will receive a greater level of empathy and social awareness from a left-winger, than from a right-winger, and I think you need look no further than the posts on this section to find evidence of that.

Of course it would - because that would mean cultural stereotyping of exactly the kind which you deny!
The assumption that a camp man must be gay and a butch man must be straight is seriously ignorant, and to judge people on appearance is exactly the same.
But as others have queried, I am unsure why a thread about possible political sympathies has taken a swerve into an unproductive conversation about sexuality in the arts.
