Why Are So Many In The Arts And Music Industry Lefties?
It seems nearly all of them are liberal lefties, why is that? Is it because they are usually wealthy so they feel guilty and feel they think it shows their caring credentials?

/// Around 6% of the British population are gay, according to an estimate by Stonewall, a gay-rights charity (though other surveys reckon the number is lower). But little definitive statistical evidence exists on how they vote, says Joe Twyman, of YouGov, a pollster. Generally, he says, they tend to be slightly less fond of the Conservatives than is the population as a whole, and slightly more likely to support Labour or the bedraggled Liberal Democrats. ///
That takes care of the political leanings, as for the high proportion of LGBT people in the ats, perhaps that is down to the fact that more people are willing to 'come out' than in other professions, for example one being in soccer.
In films for another example the days are over when such gay actors as Rock Hudson had to be portrayed as a masculine hero.

Returning to the original question, isn't it just an extension of the "shy Tory" thing? I guess actors are generally less shy people overall, but still the more right-wing ones might not be so vocal about that.
Maybe social expectations also play a part. Right-wing actors are perceived to be rare, so those who are (and they may not even be that rare) might feel less inclined to speak out for fear of ridicule.

Ah yes, the usual 'cop out' I think we all know of your regular comments regarding the Daily Mail and it's readers, even though you confess to not only reading it's website but also even buying it.

I have no idea what this post means, but since you appear to be spoiling for a fight as usual, please don't bother trying to explain.

Talbot - //Of course the arts and music industry has more left lean-ers than right.
Many from a privileged background will pretend otherwise so they can sing about social injustice. //
If you take the Arts community as a whole, what proportion of them do you imagine are from 'privileged backgrounds' and are simply pretending to be left-wing because it's fashionable?

Not only actors Jim, but also contributors to the News Section of AnswerBank, that is why there are few right-wingers on here, most of the new right-wing thinking ABers are soon frightened off, for fear of ridicule.
Yet some like myself, who are not afraid to speak out remain to upset the Lefftie Brigade.

/// AOG - If you have the answer to your own question, why bother asking it, and then getting cross when people don't answer in a way that suits you? ///
I have to explain my answers, not answer them as you incorrectly put, for the simple reason that some don't like to be made aware of perfectly reasonable connections because they interfere with their own mind set thinking, it is either that or my posts are a little too subtle for their brains to contemplate.

When you've finished with your imagination, can I borrow it - it obviously works far better than mine!!

divebuddy - //I think it's true that gays are definitely over represented in the Arts. If there was a quota system a lot of them would have to go. //
I see it somewhat differently.
It's not that there are more gays in the Arts, it's that there are more gays who are comfortable about being known for being gay.
This I think goes back to the earliest days of theatre and music, when eccentricity was accepted, and a gay community could flourish under its umbrella, a haven of safety in a hostile world. Men especially would feel comfortable being flamboyant and camp because, as actors, or theatrical staff, it was accepted as the norm, so there was no need to hide.
I honestly don't think the Arts has a higher proportion of gay people, but it does have a higher proportion of people who are not afraid to let people know they are gay, and that leads to the impression that there are more gay people in this area of the world, than others, but actually, that's not the case.
