Aog I am very well aware the USSR is now called' The Russian Federation' but to most people it is still better known as the USSR
I can't speak for Gromit but he doesn't give me the impression that he's in favour of your position.
EDDIE51 Aog/// I am very well aware the USSR is now called' The Russian Federation' but to most people it is still better known as the USSR///

No it isn't.
He points out that by defending Estonia, we block Russia's access to the Baltic. So I think he is. What was your interpretation?
The RF is simply Russia. The other 14 states of the USSR are now independent.
I gave my iterpretation/impression. It's for Gromit to say whether he s in favour of the NATO/EU action. I thought not.
I'm afraid however that gromit's 'facts' are rather questionable. There are largely two strands of opposition to this sort of deployment. One: its nothing to do with us send our boys home. The other: it's NATO turning the screw on poor old Russia. We truly are are our own worst enemies sometimes
Ok sammy. I'll leave it that IMHO we should be deploying.

The Gulf of Finland has been a strategic area for Russi for centuries. The Russians have fought wars with Sweden and Finland over its importance.
The Russian Baltic Fleet, uses Kronstadt base on Kotlin Island, which is just a few miles from where NATO are amassing a huge troop build up.
The Russians have been there for Centuries, so their threat is hardly new.
The Russian are understandably nervous of this action rather than deterred. If Spain amassed anything like his near to Gibraltar, we would be incensed.
But you ignore the fact that Russia, since the break up of the USSR and Estonia's independence, has consistently demonised and in more recent times launched cyber attracts on its neighbour. How often do you think a Russian leader or even senior minister has visited Estonia since 1991? Zero is the answer. A strange way for a country to behave that wanted to foster agreements with its neighbour. And yet despite all this NATO has steadfastly stuck to its principle that there need be no troop deployments in the forward area. Russia only has itself to blame, although the handy by-product of this is that the Kremlin can claim it's 'aggression'

/// no we haven't, they also deploying soldiers to Poland,
why? ///

To pick up the skills that the Polish seem good at, all in readiness for when we kick out all EU citizens.
After all someone has got to take on the jobs that we are constantly told "the Brits won't do".
But we're not kicking out any Euro citizens.

Then why have the Remoaners been getting all het-up over the possibility?
I didn't know we had. I certainly haven't.

Don't you read the papers or listen to news reports, they have been asking PM May, over and over again, to confirm that we won't be throwing any out.
I agree with em that I don't want to see any more young men coming home in body bags and more war widows, but Islay does have a point at 11:03 to be fair.
I didn't know the question of EU members staying in the uk was being asked exclusively by remoaners. Do you have any evidence or is this just supposition?
As a matter of fact the Polish deployment is US-led. (Latvia led by Canada and Lithuania by Germany)

i know our soldiers will be deployed in many many places, that is their job, but far too often we get involved in spats or worse and come off the worse for wear.
Well, we are members of NATO after all. We can't expect to benefit from the protection NATO offers without doing our bit. And it isn't as if it's just the UK. Lots of countries are participating.
