To our letter of intent. Oh dear they immediately go into hard ball mode. Or is this a loose cannon just firing off in a fit of pique?

It's interesting how politics has developed a new approach over the last couple of years - as a result of the Scottish Independence Referendum, and Brexit. For generations, votes have been held, and then that's it, everyone gets on with it. But since the two items mentioned, there is a new approach - the vote is held, and then those who didn't like the result...

Fear not people ... there's an unexpectedly soft landing out of shot.....
Naomi, No you didn't. My point is that if she had been able to speak as someone who was speaking what she really believed she would have more chance of persuading them to accept her view.
As it is the rest of the EU know she is only making the argument because it is politically expedient to do so. Furthermore they are also very well aware that she does not speak for the whole of the UK as Scotland want no part of any 'exit'.
Neither does N Ireland
Neither does Eddie - or ichkeria - but the majority have it. That's damned democracy for you. Night night. x
Well said,naomi.
// Great Britain has a proud and noble track record when it comes to dealing with Continental despots and would be masters //

Until now ... when we have fled, with our tails between our legs, led by the brexiters' "brave" cries of ...

"Help, let's get out, these 'masters' are getting too much for us to cope with".
I would doubt that the whole of Scotland and the whole of Northern Ireland voted to remain in thrall to the EU. Even if the majority in these areas dreaded freedom and the responsibility for self that goes with it. Recall too that Northern Ireland will have had concerns, most certainly unnecessary ones, regarding the border, which would have swayed many to make the choice to retain the status quo.
Ah og, I note you are awfully keen to point out that not everyone in Scotland and N Ireland voted to remain. Well spotted. Just as not everyone in England and Wales voted the other way. Meanwhile those puddling concerns about the border (not to mention agriculture) are plainly misplaced. So that's alright then.
Hmmmm ...
Unsure what your point is. Mine was that it was unreasonable to claim Northern Ireland and Scotland don't want to leave. Clearly they are split like most of the UK is, but overall the UK majority vote was still for getting out.

What exactly do you think is alright ?

What OG means is that for 40 odd years the majority,at least 52% it would seem,(possibly higher at times) have been against EU "membership" and the machinations of the unelected pyramid scheme. Now in all those years no consideration for the wishes or views of these people were ever considered, and no consultation in detail was ever held. When after years of trying, the issue was addressed with a referendum and the true feelings of the UK were made known, we have now got to consider the feelings and wishes of they who are happy to defer to foreign dictatorship and be obsequious to every utterance from Brussels. Ahh bless. Sauce for the goose.
Togo must have been asleep for forty odd years as I recall constant arguments with the EU in consideration of those who weren't happy with its proposals. Rightly so I might add.
For the record, although I voted to remain, I thought that the reaction was yesterday was childish in the extreme.

The problem was, and is, Garaman, that any such dissent or protest was disdainfully brushed aside and went unconsidered. Far from being "asleep", millions of people have waited patiently for the right to be heard. We prised that opportunity from the grasp of a corrupt organisation and had out rightful say, and concerns heard. Nothing that has emanated from the EUSSR since has in any way caused us to doubt that out judgement was impaired. Far from it. This "press leak" was obviously prepared well in advance of triggering of A50 and is yet another attempt by the trustees of the pyramid scheme to ferment division in what is a Sovereign State..... The United Kingdom.
It doesn't matter what TMs opinion was before the vote it is what she says and does now that counts.

She knows she has to do the right thing for the UK regardless of personal opinion. To not get the best deal for the UK would be a dereliction of duty and be like selling the family gold for a knockdown price because of incompetence (oops sorry that was Labours Gordon Brown)

// Jayne, you misunderstand. //

OK Jayne? Now sit back and listen while your view is patiently explained to you.
Jayne - //Jayne is a very nice lady - but she has the wrong end of the stick on this one. //

Hang on - you'll get your view when you've been patronised for a bit first ...
^He's off.
This is just sabre-rattling, and there'll be plenty more of it before we are finished.

The EU can't exactly say Bye bye, thanks for all the money ... - because that gives the impression that they don't care, and they're not bothered about the UK leaving.

Of course, they are very bothered, so they have to come out with a fighting stance in order to be in a strong position for negotiating.

The art of negotiation is always the same, state your highest demand, know your lowest acceptance, and be ready to meet somewhere in the middle.
Out is out for me too, no ifs no buts.

Like many Brexiteers I dont expect any Trade deal. Why should they? There are things we need to work out together for the benefits of both such as current citizens in different countries and security but the majority of laws and Trade deals can wait.

It is the Remainers who seem to thing a deal should and will be struck, just listen to Kier Starmer and Corbyn. Does they understand what is really happening? Does they even know the meaning of the word 'negotiate'?
