for orangutans.
apparently there are over half a million vegans in UK, and many complained about the new 5 pound note over its tallow content, so the Bank of England is going to
make the 20 pound notes with Palm oil, which is a basic oil in the lands of the
orangutan, Sumatra and Borneo. So the more its harvested, more habit goes the more orangutans will die off. What are we doing to our planet.

Palm oil can be found in everyday products such as fondant icing, Nutella and many marinades.

With all this talk about vegans, is it just me who's thinking ...

... I really fancy a big, rare steak?
yes, go and destroy another couple of acres of rain forest, and buy it at Tesco, so you can put some more local shopkeepers out of business.
JJ...I always have lemon with my Earl Grey !

half a million in UK alone, its not a fad, so we are all contributing in our own way to the destruction of these beautiful animals. Not just the loggers who clear the lands, but us too, that is a sobering thought.
Naturally, Mikey ... most refined.

Incidentally, I never buy meat from Tesco ... or Waitrose. I get all my meat from a little butcher in Kemp Town ...

Also handy for a quick vodka in the St James Tavern while collecting the meat (and you can chain your bike up outside!)
Emmie...I am sure that fivers can be made without killing orangutans. Can't they use lard ?

But 500,000 in a population of 64 million is hardly main stream, is it ?
Interesting to note that we constantly hear of certain animals in the threat of extinction, because humans are destroying their habitat.

Yet human populations continue to increase in parts of Africa, even after nature inflicts it's droughts, disease and famine upon them.
Question Author
its because the vegans complained about the 5 pound note, that they are going to produce the 20 with palm oil.

and i wouldn't say half a million is few, they seem to have had
a big voice over the Bank of England.

those in Africa know they are going to often lose their children, so the answer is to have more, to compensate.
Emmie....It wasn't just the Vegans....it was other religious groups as well.

I really don't think that you thought that one through, did you mikey?

*** Lard can be obtained from any part of the pig where there is a high concentration of fatty
tissue. ***
AOG,,,,for gods sake, it was meant as a joke !
Question Author
you mean religious groups, i.e Jewish, Muslim?
Yes, I think I saw this in a news report yesterday Emmie.
Question Author
ok, i didn't see that, but that means that many many are creating lands where these animals are being killed off, such as the Sumatran Tiger, not just the Orangutan. The theory goes that they could be wiped out in 3 years or less if we don't do something.
Emmie.....If that is the case, then I agree its a problem that we should be worried about, although the small amount of palm oil that will be needed to produce the £20 note, may only be a drop in the ocean.
I used to work in a vegetarian restaurant...the owner was from Delhi and her food was delicious...
But the vegan customers were all crackpots, and not terribly robust.
This is a menu for a local place...vegan in the name, but prawns on the menu? Lots of mock meat...bleurrggh

Oh I see, alright for you to make a joke, but look what happened when I did the same?
The mock meat thing is odd, isn't it.

If you are opposed to eating animals, why would you want to make your food look and taste like an animal?

It's like saying ... I don't want to eat animals, but I love the idea of eating animals so much that, even if I'm eating a processed bean product, I want it to look and taste like an animal.
