Teresa May has had prayer sessions with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I feel sure that mikey will agree with me that prayer sessions are a complete waste of time.

Criticised for being a robot. Criticised for being human. Can't win can she!
Actually Hans, as a practising atheist, prayers do nothing for me. But praying seems to help many people in coming to terms with tragedy, and if it does, it can't do any harm I suppose !
Some people find comfort in prayers. That's all.

Mikey, What's a practising atheist?
Is there anything people won't attack? Prayer is a private thing and does no-one any harm. Frankly, it's none of your business.
Praying to who?
Basically, you're just talking to yourself, I don't believe in any of that tosh, but if it brings comfort then there's no harm in it.
I wonder why she doesn't seek out her local vicar....it looks a bit like showing off to me...but then I often get the wrong end of the stick. Of course if you have a faith it is then possible to blame it all on god's will ...... However it is a harmless activity usually and does no harm to others and may make her feel better.....
Is the Archbishop of Canterbury her parish vicar?
I imagine that, as a practising Christian, Teresa feels much better now she's said her prayers.
What's a practising atheist?

One who isn't yet proficient?
The Houses of Parliament’s “parish” church is St Margarets which is the parish part of Westminster Abbey...which I believe is the Archbish’s seat.....so yes, in a way he is her vicar.
Thank you, Woof. I thought that that might be the case.
She has been massively criticised for not doing what could be construed as showing off - turning up at Grenfell Tower and hugging people for example. She is a human being and must be going through hell. Agree with scooping, this is none of our business.
For some the power and comfort of prayer is strong, for others it isn't - I wouldn't dream of criticising someone who didn't pray.

What The Funicular is that when it is at home?
God tells me that she doesn't consider them a waste of time. Requests have to be passed up the management tree for consideration.
if a few words with whichever God you may or may not follow helps to give comfort and hope then I fail to see why it would be a waste of time...as a Catholic the power of prayer and its healing powers , however imagined they may have been, has helped me through some very dark times of late...

My question is....."What is the point of prayers"?.

I have also said....."Prayer session are a complete waste of time".

However, no one appears to be trying to convince me that there is a real point in praying; especially to a supposed God that allowed the Grenfell Tower disaster, and the recent Terroist attacks.

Hans.
Praying to their god makes people feel better. It gives them comfort. That is the point of prayers.
Why on earth should anyone try to convince you otherwise, think what you think as will we all.
