Quangoid, prisoners work in the kitchens, that is where they would cook up the 'napalm' A large prison kitchen may have 20 or so prisoners working in it and just 2 chefs as supervisors/warders.

How on earth do they transport it as when mobile i've always assumed the prisoner was between 2 warders, also how long does this stay hot for because i'm not a scientist but maybe chemicals are mixed in?

^ I don't know exactly I have heard stories but no personal experience.
Prisoners outnumber warders by at least 30 to 1. There may only be one warder on a 'landing' where 100 prisoners have their cells!

I'm not sure what to believe as i heard that prisons were plushy dependent on location, prisoner status, social status outside and then i read horror stories about napalm and burnt body parts in cells which puts the uk on par with south american hell holes ive seen on docs.

Its funny how people who have never been to prison seem to know the most about them (holiday camps etc) based on what the media tell them. I'm an ex con so might have a bit more insight (you would think...)
Theres different categorys of prison (ABC & D) and within those prisons there are different regimes. Theres also a difference between state run prisons and private prisons. In essence every prison is different, but the fact remains that if you get sent to prison, you are going to be banged up with some pretty unsavoury characters.
Ive seen beatings in prison (con on con and screw on con), ive seen more vunerable prisoners get bullied, ive seen attempted suicides, ive seen really mentally ill people banged up that really should have been in hospital rather than jail.
In short, prisons may have some creature comforts like tv nowadays but they are still hell holes that the majority of people who see them as a Butlins would not want to go to.

The answer to the 'Prisons are Luxury Hotels' rant is that 75% of those who have EVER been sent to prison even for a very short sentence , NEVER get paid work again! So deep is the prejudice against employing an 'ex con'
The punishment is the removal from society,family ,friends and employment not the conditions inside a jail.
I have seen prisoners released and they are so desperate to get back inside that they commit a crime on the way home , one guy I knew smashed a jewellers window with a brick on the way to the railway station to go home.He then just stood there and waited for the police to come and take him back 'home' to his cell.
A lot of the general public think jail should be a 'nasty' as possible but that just makes life even more difficult for prison officers who are at daily risk of attack anyway!

I ve come close to the situation that you've described, doing something to get myself re-incarcerated. But I was one of the lucky ones and after been homeless for a while after leaving jail got a flat.
The thought of returning to prison now fills me with dread but if I ever found myself on the streets again I wouldn't have second thoughts about getting myself jailed again. Not because I like prison but because I have a survival instinct.
Says more about society than it does about how luxurious prison is. If you've never been homeless, penniless, hungry, desperate, then don't judge those that see prison as an alternative.

^ Thanks nalit I was hoping you would see this thread and put up a comment. Possibly you also have some information on the ratio of inmates to warders? It shows how little most of the 'outside' know about prison , one post said they thought it was 2 warders to each prisoner !

Yes, I read that post EDDIE.
When I was in HMP Shrewsbury we had 4 screws per landing (over 80 cons per landing) during unlock times such as meals, showers etc. The rest of the day there were 2 screws and sometimes not even that. At night when everyone was behind the door, there were 2 screws per WING.
Neither the cons or the screws were happy with the under staffing as it made life difficult for all.

This is the actual wing I was on (the jail is now a tourist attraction) From 13:50 on you can get an idea of the size of the wing and how too few screws there were to manage it.

Cant see how EDDIE is stirring it. The OP seemed to think that theres always two screws per prisoner to move them about the jail. Prisoners are rarely escorted anywhere. Even when I had need to move from one part of a prison to another I wasn't escorted, just had to wait by various gates and doors until a passing screw unlocked it.
