Would a 'shoot to kill' policy be a detrrent to a would-be suicide bomber/attacker?
It could be worse! they might have run out of strawberries or Pims !
they used to need a ring of steel between McEnroe and the umpires.
seems harsh AOG the players aren't that bad.
// It could be worse! they might have run out of strawberries or Pimms !//

I was thinking more eddie
any shooting ? then those players will have to hang onto their barls!

ah poor peaceful wimbledon
that never saw bomb V1 or V2 seventy y ago !

or a zeppelin raid a hundred years ago
what does this mean for the Wombles' way of life, I ask myself?
the wombles will be a bit wonky after they have had a few rounds whapped into them

just think- if Uncle Bulgaria took a rocket propelled grenade ( do the police have any ? probably ) we would have to address him as Uncle Cyprus or even Uncle Somewhere Further East

there are some serious issues raised by this
^ I think they will be driven underground...

///Armed police will operate a shoot-to-kill policy to counter the threat of suicide attacks///

Yep, I can see that working, . . . . . . oh hang on a minute!
"Oh our our once peaceful country is changing."

Let's not forget the police response to IRA terrorism. I first saw armed police on the streets back in my 20s.

That was 30 years ago.

Les plus de choses changent, plus elles restent les mêmes

I think that's Roland Garros.
AOG has issued a cri de coeur
and all we can do is make light hearted comments
C'est vrai, je suis désolé.
oh heavens there were troops clomping up and down streets during the war. They must have broken the peace in Wimbledon - or was there a wimbledon by pass ?

perhaps the war time 'route arterielle' to the south went around wimbledon
make that a pathetic heart rending cri dr coeur
// Would a 'shoot to kill' policy be a detrrent to a would-be suicide bomber/attacker? //

It's not supposed to be a deterrent. It's supposed to be a way of killing them before they can kill other people.
Yes it is changing AOG. But if you can't point to a 50 year period or more where we have had perfect peace then it probably isn't changing as much as your rose coloured specs would have you believe.
//^ I think they will be driven underground...//

Will it be difficult playing tennis underground ?
well in 1937 Betjeman wrote

Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough!
It isn't fit for humans now,

which is kinda near WImbledon

but think of his other poem which I have nodified

Miss J. Hunter Dunn, Miss J. Hunter Dunn,
single and mingle in Wimbedon sun,......../tingle or shingle perhaps/]
bam bam and bam bam bammer bammer bammer
and then they shot my baby down

would work better as a verse in a song I think

///It's not supposed to be a deterrent. It's supposed to be a way of killing them before they can kill other people///

Great, if you can identify them in time, imho.
