I'm not sure myself, I can see what the Speaker is saying but I'd hate to see them all looking like a sack of, tied up in the middle.

That's a bit of a modernisation, Dave. The original rhyming slang for that term was a "Berk" (i.e. Berkeley Hunt).
Readers should hopefully realise that the Bow Bells which define a true cockney are not in Bow (London E3) but are in fact in the church of St. Mary-Le-Bow in Cheapside in the heart of the City.

"On a side line , how many know that EE's Walford is based on the real life borough of Shoreditch ? Now one of the most 'upmarket' areas of London with average house prices of £ 3 million plus !"
Yes Eddie. For 24 years I lived a mile from the border with Shoreditch. It was a dump then and it still is now. The only difference is they’ve converted all the deserted warehouses and factories into what are quaintly called “apartments”, and added a few “trendy” restaurants which I would not trust to feed my dog (if I had one). I wouldn’t live there if you paid me £3m !!!
You are right that true “Cockneys” are few and far between. Not many people can afford to live within the sound of the bells in Cheapside. Those born in Guy’s hospital just across the river can lay claim if the wind is from the north. Mrs NJ shares that proud distinction.
In all the excitement I nearly forgot. Yes, MPs should wear ties. If they don’t they are in danger of resembling senior directors of trendy IT companies (probably based in Shoreditch) or politicians from Middle East hell-holes.
