It always seems strange (though not unexpected) that black people say that white people cannot possibly understand their problems. Imagine this then: the victims of a tragedy are predominantly white, middle class and “posh”. A black judge is appointed to head an enquiry. A white MP suggests that a black judge cannot possibly understand the problems that posh white people suffer. Yeah Right. That would go down OK, I’m sure.
Emma Dent Coad needs to understand that the enquiry is not setting out to “understand people”. It will seek to find out the cause of the fire and why it developed into the major incident that was seen. It makes no difference who was in the building at the time. David Lammy, who has also weighed in along similar lines, is an excrement stirrer in the same way that his predecessor, Bernie Grant, was. His remarks are overtly racist and would not be tolerated, let alone listened to, were they to be uttered the other way round as I have outlined.
