Eddie, you're missing the point. The people who are complaining are not complaining because they don't understand the law. They're complaining because they think the law doesn't adequately address the crime in certain circumstances. How difficult is that to understand?
That beautiful, beautiful baby, what a terrible waste. I hate him with every ounce of my being and yes, 30 years would not be enough. All I can hope is that he suffers hell in those 15 years.
As I have to explain time and again on here there is only one possible sentence for murder and that is 'life'. The judge has set a tariff of 11 years. This means that 11 years has to pass before the offender can even start the process of an appeal to the parole board, it DOES NOT mean release after 11 years! Very few appeals get parole at the first attempt and I am certain this one will be no different. An appeal to the parole board takes 2 to 5 years, if lost the offender has to start again from the beginning so another 2 to 5 years. Finally a 'lifer' can never be fully free they can only ever be free on 'licence' . They can be returned to prison at any time without another trial if they break any of the conditions of their licence, so in that sense Life does mean life !
Douglas - // If it helps Eddie, your 'have to explain time and time again' is up there with the 'rule of so'. //
No it`s not.
I point out the `So`rule in an effort to encourage people not to post spurious points and argue with imagined viewpoints - if they stop doing it, I`ll stop pointing it out - but no sign of that yet!
Mamya - //I hope that he never manages to convince a Parole Board he is fit for any sort of release, however many times he tries.//
Looking at what he has done, and his apparent absence of explanation and / or remorse, it`s fair to say he is going to have something of an uphill struggle on that one!
no need to explain eddie, I know, but it's wrong, life should mean life behind bars, not and arbitrary amount of time then let out to live like a free person with a few minor inconveniences. I absolve you from ever explaining it again, I get it but I think it is wrong.
