Eddie, you're missing the point. The people who are complaining are not complaining because they don't understand the law. They're complaining because they think the law doesn't adequately address the crime in certain circumstances. How difficult is that to understand?

Because TWR justice has been served and despite some thinking we are a civilised county and we don't torture or put to death prisoners!
I think the point of this thread is that some people don't agree that justice has been served. Yes, I know ... civilised country ... the law and all that. Nevertheless...
So you're saying Andy is just a tedious guy, ummm? :P
Nice one jim!!!!

If ummmm doesn't like the 'So' rule, she is entirely free to ignore it - I ignore things that vaguely irritate me, and save my energy for things I can get really het up about!
^ a marathon not a sprint eh Andy? ;-)
A 'whole life tariff ' can ONLY be given in certain circumstances.
One of them is for multiple murder and another one is murdering a police officer to avoid arrest. Not sure what the others are.
Sorry, but it is NOT an option just because the murder was a particularly nasty one!
AG - //^ a marathon not a sprint eh Andy? ;-) //

Indeed AG ... indeed ...
They're actually called Whole Life Orders now and the crimes which CAN attract such a sentence are:

(a) Murder of two or more persons, where each murder involves any of the following:
a substantial degree of premeditation or planning,
the abduction of the victim, or sexual or sadistic conduct,
(b) Child murder if involving the abduction of the child or sexual or sadistic motivation.
(c) murder done for the purpose of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause.
(d) Murder by an offender previously convicted of murder,
(e) Other offense if the court considers that the seriousness of the offence (or the combination of the offence and one or more offences associated with it) is exceptionally high.
Eddie, do give it a rest. We know.

andy-hughes, //If ummmm doesn't like the 'So' rule, she is entirely free to ignore it //

As does anyone who knows it exists only in your imagination.
Naomi - but you two are the only ones who moan - you are once again confusing me with someone who cares.
Just like you can ignore Eddie's response Naomi. Seriously, this place sometimes...
ZM so (C) can apply to 'terrorist murderers' ?
That will please a few on AB.
Islay---I don't think we are a civilised country .Most of the posters on here seem to want this murderer to suffer torture for the length of his sentence.
Eddie. It would seem so. Your also right about the killing of a police officer but The whole life tariff will not be mandatory and judges will retain discretion over imposing a lower sentence if they believe it is appropriate.
You're. Tut.
naomi, I really wish I could give it a rest. But the same subject comes up time and time again.
If other AB members 'know' why does the same question come up every few days? This is the 3rd one in 10 days!
andy-hughes, //you are once again confusing me with someone who cares.//

I don't think so. Since you //point out the `So`rule in an effort to encourage people not to post spurious points and argue with imagined viewpoints// .... you clearly do care.

Quizproquo, //Just like you can ignore Eddie's response Naomi.//

And just as you can ignore mine. Tut! Seriously! This place sometimes!!
I didn't comment on or complain about yours though Naomi and that's the difference.

Eddie most of us do know or have access to Google if unsure - even those who rage against what they know.

It's your choice to not only continually correct but to tell us you are tired of repeating it.
