Fgm. Why No Convictions

Its not often that I post in news but this piqued my interest

I was reading my local newspaper which has reported that there have been 30 cases of FGM in Stoke on Trent in the last year. In the comments, someone wrote that there have been no convictions for it since the law against it was bought out so I googled it thinking that SURELY the commentator was wrong. He wasn't.
If I damaged someones person I would be behind bars faster than Billy Whizz on speed. (And I have been....for a lot less)
So why no convictions for such a horrible crime?

I think if a child is found to have had GM then the parents would be prosecuted because they have either arranged for it to be done or at the very least known about it and didn't stop it. For me, it's that simple.

Mamya I meant to put "should" not would. And No I can't think of another way. I think once a few parents have been prosecuted, and dealt with severely, then others might think twice about allowing it to happen to their child.
I was hoping to hear Nailit's thoughts on my suggestion.

I'm quite shocked to find that I agree with Kavaladir - but I do feel that a swoop and a lot of prosecutions at once may bring the message home sooner that this is against the law in this country and may not be done - or assisted. Like it or not, recognised victims must have cases brought on their behalf if they are British citizens. Are we a civilised country or not?

Oooooh and the sky hasn't fallen Jourdain2 :) It seems to me a very simple thing, as Ladybirder etc said the child's parents are obviously aware of it or have arranged it so good place to start is there.
