The New Doctor
Great choice or 'political correctness gone mad'
Personally I wanted Tilda Swindon, but that was unlikely to ever happen.

Dammit I thought I was posting in this thread but it was the other one. Doh. A few years ago I’d have thought it was a daft idea but the plotlines have allowed for it, so as long as there’s some “ internal” logic for it I’m not bothered. Plus I’ve been feeling for a while that it’s grown stale and complacent, and is in need of a firm kick up the rear end....

A massive shock to the system and i had to go and have a lie down when i heard the news. Dr Who is a Time LORD, not a Time LADY. I'm just getting over the fact that Idris Elba is playing Roland in the upcoming Dark Tower film. A film based on a 7 book series written (over a period of about 25 years) by Stephen King in which Roland is most certainly a white man.
Exactly he's from Gallifrey so not human and he has two hearts which he can stop at will- how is he NOT alien? The Timelords transcended gender millenia ago, and way back part of a script was 'I knew the Dr when he was a little girl'- so regenerations to the opposite sex are established as quite common.

Yes, I saw how the Daily Mail readers have reacted to this. The paper has made it their lead story and so far it's generated over 4,000 comments.
They are not pleased.
God only knows how they would've reacted if Richard Ayoade had gotten the role.
I suspect half the readership would spontaneously combust.
