Surely you do know the answer- they come for a range of pretty obvious reasons relating to economics/bettering themselves and joining familiy and friends who recommend it, and based perhaps on some myths about how well off everyone is here. You might ask why they also want to preserves some traditions- yes they want the best of both worlds. i think i would if I moved to another country. I'm not saying they should get everything they want- i'm just saying I don't understand why some pretend to be confused about why these people want to come here

I don't think anyone is confused, but when asked they don't say "we are economic migrants" do they? that wouldn't do at all, and that is what Katie's rhetorical OP question is trying to get a representative to admit, they say instead that they are refugees fleeing from persecution.

Also I'm not sure how "wanting better life" necessarily means "economic migrant", unless you are saying that Asylum Seekers don't also want that.

Of course most of our immigrants come to Britain for a better life.....immigrants have been doing that since time immemorial. Complete nations, all over the world exist now, precisely because of that.

The world's population has migrated to other areas due to things such as drought, climate change, political / tribal / racial/ religious oppression since prehistoric times, it will never change.
