Aldi defends decision to close till to customers buying alcohol

Ridiculous!
for goodness sake ! if you want a job in a supermarket you have to be able to habdle all the stock.. if you don't want to then don't work there !! what next .. no bacon cos there's a jewish cashier on the next till ?
Yes, it has happened in my local Aldi. The Muslim cashier calls over the security man who handles the bottle and swipes.

Let's face it, it is his belief and Aldi respect that.
Question Author
I can truthfully say, that would never happen in Spain.
Completely unacceptable. If a Muslim applies for and gets a job as a till worker then s/he must accept selling and handling all products. Non-Muslims presumably have to accept handling repugnant Halal meat. We must not accept control by stealth. Last time I will shop at Aldi.

Don't drink alcohol if you think it's evil, but I can't believe scanning
bottle would send them to hell
Sharon - it may be his belief, but it is not our belief and he has no right to impose his belief on us. :)

What is happening in the UK ? Is everyone so frightened of these people ?
Maybe and agree it is annoying, but it causes no hold up to the shopper.
While all were tutting, I'd nip in to the next till.

The majority of supermarket employees of whatever religion do their job with no bother.

If you can't do the Job, don't bother!
Question Author
I think the people in the UK are getting too accustomed to this ridicule. Honestly!! You can't buy a product because an employee doesn't drink it !
S/he has still no right to impose his/her beliefs on others, Sharon. The job is simply to process items through the till. No Muslim is asked to touch pork (it's wrapped) or drink alcohol (it's in bottles). Ergo, there is an attempt to force a personal belief on others and that is totally unacceptable.
Question Author
In that case, I wouldn't pass lamb through, I don't eat lamb.
Our Aldi doesn't man all the tills all the time. As queues form they open a till - then close it.
Not accustomed really, something similar has happened to me a few times - some were because of age restrictions (theirs not mine) the others I presume were religious based and a buzzer summoned a supervisor very quickly.

An extra minute or so on my shopping experience.
yeah does this ban include pork, sausages and bacon /
and Ham
The sign only mentioned alcohol at that till, you could always contact Aldi - as many apparently have already.
Had an interesting cashier in Lidl a few weeks back.
He kept tutting and didn't approve of my purchases, spoke to the manager, haven't seen cashier since.
