Naomi, I believe there are good Muslims out there. You cannot tar everyone with the same brush.
Ok Tony, I promise not to go shopping with you.
Sharon, you were talking about respecting beliefs. I asked you if you respect the rest of the cashier's beliefs. Do you?
Wot !, not even clothes shopping ;-)
No, not even that - I'd be back home and all packed away with a nice glass of something whilst my shopping partner was still bemoaning the state of the World today.
^ Was a different Tony(V) in my earlier response.
Wonder if he likes gravy?
Aldi has the most aggressive policy of getting punters away from the checkout of any of the supermarkets. I assume they will be consigning this irritating policy to the bin. It will be a total joke policy when one checkout has a queue of say 8 punters and the other has none (an entirely possible scenario)

I don't know if this happens in other Stores or not, but to be fair it just backs up my reasons not to use Aldi.
Sorry Samuraisan - this is a News thread - forgive me.
There was more than the one till to go to and folk could have left their messages at the checkout and gone to another store if they felt that offended.
Sounds like the usual scaremongering from the newspapers. There is probably much more to the story than meets the eye
^^^^^ or the member of staff could do what they are paid for.
How far will this go? A vegan refusing to serve meat ,milk and animal products? Someone who does not believe in birth control refusing to sell condoms? A Muslim refusing to sell Christmas decorations or bibles ? A member of weightwatchers refusing to sell fattening food?
Once you start it is a downward spiral !
It's rubbish. I work with Muslims who are quite happy to serve pork and alcohol (many of them are quite happy to have a bit of a drink as well) The Press just like to hype things up and the public quite like to fall for it
Are you saying there is a different reason for the note on the till, sj?
In what way is it rubbish or hyped up. One check out queue (lucky it wasn't more I suppose) was not prepared to sell you the stuff that the store, er, sells. Bonkers. P45 required me thinks.
Lots of Muslims have alcohol fact.
Andy .. personally having decided not to answer that familiar question found on a job aplication .. 'Do you consider yourself to have a disability'.. I found my offers to attend an interview increased dramaticaly. I know for a fact that discrimination is alive and well, having spoke to many managers 'off the record'.
Should Aldi ask about a prospective employees ability to handle meat and alchohol, I think the answers received would sort out those that have a chance ànd those that dont. The offer of employment should not be based on offending or discriminating against ethnic groups and their beliefs.
Aldi can always fall back on those famous words and relinquish all claims of discrimination..
"Thank you for your application, but unfortunately on this occasion your application has been unsuccessful. The standard of applicant on this occasion was so high, we had great difficulty in making our final choice. We wish you every success in the future."...

Not a single person or sausage offended ?
Cheers !
Silly billys. They're not in business to promote the preferences of weird cults.
