I suppose it depends upon whether she perceives it to be to her benefit to, or not.....

If she doesn't listen she will only fuel the far right.
I see the nice people of the left are already gathering and perhaps getting ready for a bit of violence.
Might be good for us re Brexit.
I have been having great fun reading ABers old comments from last year, predicting Merkels's demise today.
The AfD will be a coalition Partner, and will get a lot of seats, but they are still a minor party. Merkel will have to be aware of their opinions, but she is still in charge.
Question Author
87 isn't many seats?
Only formed in 2013. Extraordinary, imo.
The AfD are unlikely to figure in a new Grand Coalition.

The SPD (2nd place party) have indicated they want to be in opposition than in coalition. So the CDU will patner with the FDP (Pro-business Party) and the Greens, who Merkel has been couting the affects offor the last year.

So the AfD will be a minor opposition Party, rather like the SNP in the UK.
Whoops, the Malbec is being to take effect....

// will PARTNER with the FDP (Pro-business Party) and the Greens, who Merkel has been COURTING the AFFECTIONS of for the last year. //
The last hard right German party to do well in an election had quite a lot of fans in Britain. I expect this one will too.
Should units of the fire brigade be permanently stationed near the Reichstag ?
The party that held a soporific election campaign held on, but with losses. With the exception of annoying pensioners, that sounds familiar.
Probably the Germans are wanting a referendum.
Yes...wonderful to see the Quasi-Nazis back in the Reichstag again.

I expect this will make Farage happy as well, as he openly supports the AFD.

Just to make it clear what the AFD stands for ::

They are climate change deniers.

They want Germany to do a "180 degree" turn regarding the countries role in WW2.

They want to bring back conscription.

They are against same-sex marriage

I have watched several pieces of film of the angry protesters against AfD's success, and their average age looks to be about 15.
Luke 23:34 comes to mind.
I believe the AfD are the Alternative for Deutscheland party
Don't quote the gospels, Khandro, I don't think he's capable of getting the point. Anyone who goes into a "Racist! Neo-Nazi!" rant about people because they are "against same-sex marriage" (I'm one such, by the way) while at the same time supporting and defending a group which is 90% for making homosexuality illegal has a problem with even the most basic logical and moral concepts.
It's a great pity because the same person is very interesting when he's talking about music.
If you find mikey's description of what the AfD stands for a little thin, you can go to https://www.afd.de/grundsatzprogramm-englisch/ and click on the link to read it all in English.
mikey will not be doing this because he is, despite his ignorance of the subject, full of virtue signalling negativity. He clearly demonstrates how [i] The best lack all conviction, while the worst are filled with passionate intensity.”[i ]

W.B. Yeats
The attribution ought to be redundant, Khandro. It is, after all, one of the most famous poems of the 20th century.

A few years ago that collection of anoraks (all five as I recall) in "Eggheads" didn't recognise the quotation and couldn't actually name either poem or poet.

I am reminded of two poems (and a Christmas card) mentioning donkeys (a VE charity).
