Normally, I have little time for Duncan, but he has hit the nail firmly on the head here.

He is 100% correct in that it was lower educated / older people panicking over immigration that led to Brexit. I have said on here several times how I heard old people in the voting station queue saying to each other they were fed up with immigrants and were going to vote Leave. Then the next morning the young single mums in the Muslim run corner shop, all cheering...

Must be a lot of xenophobia in the NHS as I and all my colleagues were last week questioning why a 73 year old Romanian who didn't have a word of English to go by and required an interpreter was having a big operation for a long-standing bowel condition.
In fact there are instances of 'xenophobia' almost daily where I work.
I/we voted remain but I don't get involved in all the quibbling.
you're not speaking up, you are deriding the leavers. I don't think I have heard any positive reasons why you voted remain, you etc just continue to deride, berate and ridicule those that voted leave. From the start of the whole thing long before the referendum till now I have heard hardly any good reasons to remain. The remainers focus entirely on project fear, you might have won if you'd given us any good reasons to remain.

Chilli....as I understand it, if I were to need surgery for a serious condition and I lived in Poland, than I could expect to get treated there. But I am somewhat puzzled by your reference to ::::

"who didn't have a word of English to go by and required an interpreter"

Would it have been OK if the man had lived here for many years, and was completely fluent in the English language ?

TTT....16,141,241 people voted to remain, not just me. That is 48.1% of those that voted, on a turnout of 72%.

I accept that Britain will leave the EU, although not anytime soon, if the progress shown so far by David Davies, and Mrs May is anything to go by.

Why are you ridiculing the views and wishes of 16,141,241 people ?
Mikey/Eddie, I don’t believe that immigration was the sole reason that most ‘Leavers’ voted to leave, but that said, if people are concerned about uncontrolled immigration, what’s wrong with them acting upon their concerns? I’d be obliged for an answer to that please.

Ironic that you two bang on so much about, as Eddie puts it, ‘lower educated’ people. Got to laugh really.
Mikey, isn't it time you accepted that Brexit will happen and stop quibbling about something you cannot change?
Mikey to ChillDoubt, //Why are you ridiculing the views and wishes of 16,141,241 people ? //

Why are you denigrating the majority of the people who voted?
Sorry, Mikey was speaking to TTT there^ - but the question remains.
mikey, why do you automatically blame the UK for the lack of progress in Brexit talks?
where am I ridiculing anyone? It's the remainers who keep name calling. Through out all of this no one has given me a good reason to remain.
Question Author
Dougie....you must have missed it when I said that I do accept the decision to leave. I have made that quite clear many, many times on here, the last time at 09:05 this morning !
Best two answers to TTT at 8.46 and 8.56

But neither of them will because it doesn't fit in with the OPs gripe.

Just to be clear that happens with every discussion. BA only ever agrees with the OP stance ;-)
//After we leave the EU, we will continue to promote and defend our values through our global diplomatic network, our development assistance programmes and our military muscle. NATO will remain the cornerstone of our defence; and we will continue to champion the UN and to be a leading voice in other international organisations.
In short, once the UK leaves the EU, our defence and security, overseas aid and foreign policies will continue to reflect our proud history as a global power with global interests and to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to promoting security and prosperity and an international rules-based system around world.//

//I was pleased to see in your most recent survey “What Americans think about America First” that Americans consider the UK to be the most responsible country in dealing with the world’s problems.//

//The point is this – the UK is leaving the European Union but it remains a global player in its own right, and one with global interests. Brexit does not mean we are stepping back from the world: that would be to misunderstand the choice made by the British public, as our Prime Minister Theresa May made clear in her speech last month in Italy.//

These are parts of the "SPEECH" to the Chicago Council On Global Affairs(Me neither). It would appear that the few lines being touted by the Beep Beep See were part of a Q&A "session" afterwards. Anyone care to ponder which organisation may have loaded the question? More contrived "news". Meehh.

Mikey, then why do you keep on about it ad infinitum?
Question Author
Danny...why do you take part in these debates ?
// you might have won if you'd given us any good reasons to remain. //

True. The whole thrust of the remain campaign seemed to be about trying to shame anyone who was thinking about voting leave into changing their mind by calling them a racist, or just stupid. This rather than presenting good reasons to remain.

A completely counter productive tactic - the same one that nearly resulted in a yes vote for Scottish independence.

People don't like being insulted, and they react against it. It will continue though of course, as Project Fear morphs into Project 'It's all your fault you wrinkly old little Englanders'.
No mikey, we were just opining as to how/why she was here at all and under what circumstances.
Truth be told, most of the 'ill educated'(including consultants who I know voted for Brexit)staff weren't overjoyed at the £90 per hour cost of the interpreter(the patient's daughter couldn't be bothered to come to the hospital) , but hey-ho.
I felt more sorry for the UK resident who had their op cancelled for lack of a bed.
That's a good post, Ludwig but I'm afraid ... best answer to EDDIE.

//Danny...why do you take part in these debates ?/
Are you implying that for some reason I should not.Is it that I often disagree with you?
