I was a REMAIN supporter, but I thought that one of the reasons that people voted for BREXIT, was to bring back control of our affairs to Parliament ?

The problem with Brexit right from the start has been that Mrs May has tried to do it all on her own terms. Remember she went to the high court to fight for not having to involve parliment and was unanimously defeated, then rather than accept she went to the supreme court and inevitably was unanimously defeated again. Now she has been trying to force it through again and yet again has been told she MUST fully involve parliment and have a full vote on it.
Did anyone,even the most ardent Leave supporters , genuinely think that it was in any way acceptable for the most profound change to the UK constitution in history to be simply slipped through without a full debate and vote?

Mikey, what does having a workable majority have to do with today’s result? There were 185 Con MPs who voted remain. There were 138 who voted leave.

Of course folk did until a fuss was made, because the vote is clearly superfluous, for the reasons I've mentioned earlier. Today's vote was nothing to do with democracy and everything to do with wanting to win something against the government no matter how ridiculous.

If she had had more of her own Party in the HOC, she may very well have won tonight.

Thanks Zacs, but I must also endorse mikey's post that Mrs May's disastrous decision on the election is responsible for the present fiasco. Without the election she would have had a majority of 13 and no need to get into bed with the DUP. The bill would have sailed through.

I agree this is a victory for democracy , but it should never have been necessary. The guarantee of a debate and full vote on the final offer should have been in from the very start .

People also voted with the clear advice that the Govt didn’t have to abide by the result of the vote.
