Have they been arrested because it is feared that they may be a threat to our safety or because they are members of a banned group?

Can't be the former because the police have insisted there is no threat to public safety.

i would have thought the arrest and detention of any suspected terrorist is a good thing
You're right Ich, we are now well and truly safe from the thoughts of these right wing terrori... hang what acts of terrorism have they committed?

Not sure who AOG is referring to as ‘that group’ which isn’t band, but this link has a list of banned groups in the UK

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4569388/banned-terror-groups-uk-national-action/amp/
We prefer our terrorists to be arrested BEFORE any act has been committed presumably. I guess there’d be little point banning groups if we weren’t prepared to charge people with membership of them.

/// Ah well.....it's gone, AOG, so no-one now will be able to see that it was, in fact, ///

It was no insult at all as well you know it, I only wish I could get some of the more direct and vicious insults aimed towards me, removed as easily as some selected members on here can.
Ahhhh......bless......
It must be a very hard life being you, AOG.
Perhaps if you could stick to the contents of your own questions rather than leap on the first opportunity to snipe at someone, you would find yourself to be as ill-used as you believe yourself to be.
* would not find yourself......of course.

//The question that must be asked is why being a member of this particular group is against the law, have they actually carried out any acts of terrorism?

Most acts of terrorism have been carried out in the name of Islam, yet being a follower of that group isn't unlawful.//

It doesn’t work like that.

There are Islamist groups that are on the banned list. You cannot arrest someone for simply being Muslim.

That would be...I don’t know what the word is.

...mental?

Yes.

Mental.

With the thinking of some, should we now ban Islam?
// Seems the same on here, one can be condemned for just holding a particular opinion.//
yup
( AOG suddenly starts yodelling the theme music to 1984 - 'thought crime"!)
This was started by your fave PM - Margaret Thatcher in the late seventies. - membership of a proscribed organisation ( here the IRA) was a crime

all that was required was a senior police officer to say to a judge: "I believe he is a member of a proscribed organsation"

judges quite strong in their condemnation I recollect
Should we ban Islam?

No.

But we should continue to arrest members of National Action as they *are* a proscribed group.
Should we ban Islam?
No unless you intend to ban all religion!
Should we ban membership of terrorist groups?
Yes
// With the thinking of some, should we now ban Islam?//

o god have we all been sipping a little too much sweet sherry before luncheon ?

well it would take us back to the 1500s
cuius regio eius religio
the religion of the country takes on the religion of the king
so during the time of Mary I Tudor who was a catholic
the country was damned well gonna be catholic

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuius_regio,_eius_religio

which on thinking of it (!) is kinda better than Islam
where we go back to the 600s

I couldn't agree more, but I have not seen any reports of terrorist attacks being carried out by this group.

Why even the police have have insisted that there is no threat to public safety.
They are a proscribed group, AOG.
To be a member is to invite arrest.
they don't seem like a nice cuddly bunch of people, so the security forces have acted, that has got to be a good thing surely.

You are not telling us what most of us don't already know, but the question that should be asked id why?

Could this sort of thing be the beginning of more serious implications?
aog

such as ?
Baldric has given you the 'whys' of the matter.

They are a nasty pernicious bunch of inadequates who seek ways to cause trouble and so reduce the amount of time the Security Services are able to spend focusing on the people I am sure you would rather they concentrated on...
Question Author
emmie

We would have need to increase our security forces by thousands if we were to carry out dawn raids on all "none nice cuddly bunches of people" that we have in the UK today.
