After the Anglo-Saxon invasions of the 5th century many Celts, who formed the vast majority of the population, fled to remote parts of the country, such as Wales and Cornwall. Some crossed the channel and settled in Brittany, hence the connection with Britain. They used to be distinguished by Britannia Minor (Little Britain) and Britannia Maior (Great Britain).
Macron said during his election campaign that he wanted to renegotiate the Le Touquet agreement which enables British border officials to carry out checks in France (and vice versa).
No doubt some of you will be apoplectic at the fact that we supply about €80 million of annual funding for security and other costs and have already financed tighter security at Calais' Eurotunnel site and the port.

In two minds about this.
It is far cheaper to stop them coming in, plus our left wing liberal elite and an army of 'ooman rights lawyers will never send them back.
So, being pragmatic, it is best to help the French here. Perhaps we could encourage them to repatriate? We could also stop giving them benefits , houses, cars and mobile the minute they set foot in the UK. We should bang them up until we know who they are and where they came from. No documents then you will be in jail a while. Word will soon get round the UK is no longer a soft touch.

Zac I think one of the rules is they seek asylum or refugee status at the first European land fall. They actually get to the first place then nip along to the French boarders, such as Calais, and demand to be let over the draw bridge to the UK.
Once they have got over they know there is next to no chance of being sent back anywhere let alone France.
If the boarder were this side of the water we would be even more inundated so paying a bit to stop the bulk is probably the pragmatic view.
However it should be noted that this is not a problem of the UKs making and we shouldn't be made to pay for the continents mistakes.
