"As NI voted to remain perhaps it is time to have a united Ireland. The brolly brigade can moan all they like."

Utterly amazed someone is suggesting bringing back The Troubles. Why would anyone want and support that ?
‘unless the EU are determined to cause trouble’

‘As for Barnier, he's just causing trouble’

I think you just answered your own question OG.
Wasn't so much a question, more an illustration of what's going on, IMO.

Question is whether the EU is sufficiently determined to hold their position to the end and cause an Irish problem, in order to punish someone, anyone will do, because some refuse to toe the EU line and allow themselves be controlled.
Every comment from the Fokkers (aka Junkers and Barners) just makes it more and more obvious that we are right to bail out of the whole corrupt, self-serving, autocracy that they have built and are now pathetically desperate to perpetuate.

Ireland is not in Schengen (and never will be, unless the whole Republic goes collectively bonkers) - so the effective border for people (as opposed to goods) will continue to be the Irish and UK ports and airports. But that doesn't make a good stick to beat us with though, so is conveniently ignored.

For goods there just may (possibly) need to be some sort of 'smart border' between NI and Ireland - but I'd lay a lot of pounds to a very few euros that even that won't need to happen.

a) to cause trouble b) to frighten us into submission to whatever they want as terms. They are the ones wanting a hard border, not us. Take note, I.R.A. and bomb Brussels if it happens. It is their problem.
