Yes because the CIA are a lot more careful and stealthy

I think I give up! You are hopeless. Do you not remember the Cold War? I doubt it, you say you are the youngest in your class. Look up the work 'enemy' in the dictionary, please.
We have managed to co-exist with Russia for many years - a real triumph and I wish devoutly that this state could continue indefinitely. I am no war-monger, believe me.
Unfortunately, Putin wishes to return Russia to the Empirical state it was. No-one dissents from this view. To this end he has reclaimed the Crimea. I would not be surprised if the next target was 'reclaiming' (for which read 'invading') a Baltic state.
How old are you? He is ramping up his ambitions.
Mr J2 marched up and down in front of the Iron Curtain with his detachment during his National Service. I saw the barbed-wire fence and gun turrets when I went to Germany as a schoolgirl.
It was chilling -and I learned the true meaning of the word 'enemy'.

So here we go again, the U.K. sticking its military oar into wars that don’t concern us like , the gulf war , Iraq, Afghanistan... only this time we’re not going to set our “British bulldogs” on scared little middle eastern pooches but we’re going to try and tangle with the great mother Russian bear?
I’m starting to see why this “international incident” regarding the poisoning may have been started, maybe for us to cry”fire” and get help from the us and other countries.
Still, even with all this “military might” we still may not have enough firepower compared to putins nuclear arsenal.

What no one seems to ask is whoever carried out the attempted killing, why did they choose this chemical, if they didn't want to cause an international incident?
What was wrong with the old time honoured methods of shooting, stabbing or throwing from a high building?
No there is something more complexed behind this affair and we are not being told what it is.

"What no one seems to ask is whoever carried out the attempted killing, why did they choose this chemical, if they didn't want to cause an international incident? "
But they DID choose it. And I suspect they DID want to cause an international incident, moreover one which plays very well with the perpetrator's image at home. Here, if Theresa may decided to murder a Briton abroad who had spied for Russia - with anything never mind a banned chemical weapon - and had been caught at it, it would be her political downfall. Not so in Russia: anyone who is not congratulating Putin for dealing with traitors is fulminating against the "Anglichanka" (Englishwoman: not Theresa may specifically, but a generic term of disdain for England/Britain) for stirring up hostility against and lying about poor old Russia. The main media channels are full of stuff both condemning traitors, and at the same time running items about all the bad things Britain has ever done to Russia. Helped of course, by the useful idiots here it has to be said.

Going back the the original question for a moment, the sanctions announced by the White House are largely related to Russian interference in the US elections, interestingly.
President Trump's admission that Russia was responsible came with the word "Sad" - almost wistful, I thought. His hero seen in his true colours. But no matter what has gone before, now he knows.
In spite of all I have said before, I hope someone is upping his State visit on the agenda :-)
