nobody voted for independence. They voted to leave the EU. Britain is leaving the EU. It might go more easily if ministers stopped having hissy fits, but it's going to happen anyway, as the public demanded
jno,// it's going to happen anyway, as the public demanded //

As the public demanded? I doubt that very much, but we can hope.
Apparently he's got a Black Belt in Karate.
Nobody voted for independence? I did.
Me too.
the public demanded to leave the EU, naomi, and this will happen. That's all they voted for. They did not vote on how.

It has been suggested they might hold another referendum on "how", but leavers don't seem to want one. In which case they'll just have to take what they get, as will everyone else

"Raab has previously said he supports “full fat” Brexit. Amid talk of an extended transition period and efforts to keep Britain in a customs union with the EU, does he fear we are heading for a diet version?

“No, I think if we’re true to our promises that we’ve made in our manifesto – and the mandate that we got from the referendum, which was to take back control over our borders, our laws and our money – I think we ought to on the Brexit side be flexible about the bridge to that end state,” he says."

sounds like independence to me, and judging by some of the above comments to others also..in fact although not all on this board, I'd say 17million or so !..
"Leaving" means not being a member state. If we're no longer a member state, then we have left.

Plenty of states that aren't in the EU participate in the single market or customs union - these are not things which are completely synonymous with membership of the EU. But it's never enough. It's never, ever enough.
jno, //the public demanded to leave the EU, naomi, and this will happen. That's all they voted for. They did not vote on how. //

They weren't asked 'how?' - there was no 'how?' ..... but you're right in one respect. They voted to leave. How difficult is that to understand?

"the public demanded to leave the EU, naomi, and this will happen. That's all they voted for"

and that included "independence" ..and that is where people like you just refuse to understand exactly what that means...a phrase with words like banging, head and brick wall springs to mind...

not difficult at all. How difficult is to understand that Britain is leaving? As of April next year Britain will no longer be in the EU.
If we are still under control, whether we have the title 'member state' or not, we would still be in the EU. Remainers need to understand they fool no one trying to get us off the 'member state' list but still dictated to. To do so would still be a betrayal of the public's referendum result, and everyone knows this.
jno, only the disingenuous deny recognising a thorn by any other name….
Britain will be leaving the EU. It will only be independent until the Chinese want to build its next nuclear reactor, or the Americans tell it what war it has to sign up for. Britain bends its knee without being told to by the EU and will continue to do so - only more so.
//If we are still under control, whether we have the title 'member state' or not, we would still be in the EU.//

That is extremist nonsense, O_G.
Hmmm...

"Dominic Raab, a Brexit-supporting minister, has been promoted to replace David Davis as Brexit secretary, No 10 has announced.

Raab was previously housing minister and replaces Davis, who resigned late on Sunday night saying he could no longer support the government’s Brexit policy announced at Chequers last week."

If Rabb is Brexit supporting, what's he doing accepting a job where May offers to give in again to the EU ? That doesn't sound very Brexit supporting. On the contrary. Unless he thinks he can swing things around, which seems less likely than him being there as a personal career choice.
It is just basic obvious truth. My sympathy that you don't see it, Krom.
You seem to view any interaction between us and the EU at all as 'control'. If that's not extremist I don't know what is!
He won a libel action against the Mail on Sunday.
