What next will Muslim women be able to wear their Burkas while serving in HM Forces? After all Sikhs are allowed to wear their turbans.

Why does cultural or even religious bias have to be accommodated in certain situations!? ? Whatever one is doing it should be relevant to the circumstance s, not given to bias in any form! The Scouts, girl guides and Brownies are from here....we should NOT give in to religious or cultural thoughts IMO. What most people don't think of is....wht other countries...

JD, there isn't a single Scout Promise in the UK.
"Scouting is available to people of all faiths as well as people who are humanist, atheist or have no affirmed faith and therefore must therefore take account of the different religious obligations or
non religious beliefs of its Members. Similarly,
people of other nationalities resident in the United Kingdom, who may become Members of the Association, owe allegiance to their own Country.
To meet these circumstances, there are different variations of the Beaver Scout, Cub Scout and Scout Promise that can be made, allowing for the individuals obligations while upholding the essential spirit of the Promise.
The Scout Association has a core Scout Promise and is fully committed as a Movement to exploring faith, beliefs and attitudes as a core element of its
programme.
The phrase "to love God" and "duty to God" implies belief in a Supreme Being and the acceptance of Divine Guidance. In each Promise the phrase "Duty to God" or, in the case of Beaver Scouts, "to love God", is suitable for most faiths (including Christians, Hindus, Jews, Muslims and Sikhs).
Hindus may use either the words "my Dharma" or "God". Muslims may use the word "Allah" in place of "God". Buddhists should use only the words "my Dharma". Muslims may use the phrase "In the
name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful" in place of "On my honour" when making the Promise.
The Association provides advice where some other form of wording is required for a member of a particular faith or religion.
For people of other nationalities resident in the United Kingdom taking the Cub Scout or Scout Promise, the phrase "duty ...to the Queen" may be replaced by "duty...to the Country in which I am now living". However, British subjects must promise to do their "duty...to the Queen".

Scouts motto --Be prepared!
This woman is definitely not prepared for all eventualities.
If a scout got into difficulties in the water then by the time the leader has got her headgear, gloves and burkha off the child could have drowned.
Health and safety rules are being swept aside to accommodate this woman.

I look at it differently. Don't start something you can't finish. Put your money where your mouth is. Stand by your principles if you feel so strongly as to dismiss someone with 50 years loyal service to the scout movement and active service to his country.
It appears to me that Mr Walker's principles are more honourable than the Scout movement in this case.

And I see it as a pragmatic response....don't give the nutters the oxygen of publicity, don't waste funds that can be put to better use. I know its not the same but I used to be involved with volunteers in the NHS who had given "many years of loyal service" What this meant was that they had had their own way and run things their own way because of the local stink they could make if they were challenged or asked to change....basically we did the same thing, those who went quietly were given public recognition for their long service, those who would not go quietly went anyway....but go they did.
"Active service to his country" Does that mean there are no mouthy gits in the services? My late Dad would have disagreed with you!

///Mehwish Siddiqui, a fellow leader at 1st Heckmondwike Ansaar Scouts, said: ‘Zainab is a very conservative Muslim and wears the niqab all the time. She’s always up for anything and wears her niqab for the sports activities like canoeing. It doesn’t get in the way.’///
There is no reference to anything else she may be wearing apart from the niqab. A niqab itself would not hinder her ability to rescue a drowning child...

They cetainly seem to be enjoying a full range of activities and Zainab Kothdiwala seems to be one of many Scout Leaders attached to the group.

I have no idea how able this lady is to perform the tasks she has to do but I think this case revolves more about good manners than anything else.
We all have the right to voice concerns about a colleague or counterpart's abilities - it should be possible to do that without resorting to comparisons to film characters or as in other cases inanimate objects.
I may tell a close friend she looks like the back end of the 38 bus in her new dress but I'd be more diplomatic with someone I didn't know well.
