Sadly, his injuries are not life threatening. Better luck next time.

In those terms, clearly not, and no argument.
But in terms of seeing a stranger as comparable with a mad dog to be put down, maybe you are closer to his mindset than you would like to admit, maybe even to yourself.

Jackdaw - // This is a harrowing case from 70 years ago but shows how justice was meted out. //
The justice that was meted out then, was execution, we no longer have Capital Punishment, so I am unsure of the point you are making by posting the link.
If you think Mr Whiting should be hung, then you can state that without the need for a link that has no other relevance to the debate.

Andy-hughes, //But in terms of seeing a stranger as comparable with a mad dog to be put down, maybe you are closer to his mindset than you would like to admit, maybe even to yourself.//
One could be forgiven for thinking that in insulting me you are affording this madman the benefit of the doubt. Doubtless your words are spoken in haste and without the benefit of an engaged brain – as always.

I never had you down as thin-skinned Naomi, but if you choose to see a potential perception you may not have considered as an insult, then you must enjoy your over-sensitivity.
My words were not 'spoken' at all, I actually wrote them down, and I never write anything 'in haste', or 'without the benefit of an engaged brain' as you so rudely put it.
If your response to a pause for thought and an unfounded accusation of rudeness, is to reply with obvious an unequivocal rudeness, then maybe we should stop our exchange now - when you have had the last word of course, as you always are wont to do.

Theland - // Sad that justice has to be meted out by mob rule. Not right. //
As Sandy has pointed out, the justice was given by the court, an assault by fellow inmates is not 'justice' - merely nasty thuggish violence by people with too high an opinion of their own self-righteousness, which is ironically cancelled out by the fact that they are themselves incarcerated for criminal offences, so their notion of 'justice' has to be ignored.

Andy-hughes, just hang on. I, according to you, may be “closer to his [child killer Roy Whiting’s] mindset” than I would like to admit, maybe even to myself? And that disgusting gem is the result of your ‘engaged’ brain? If that’s so, then I dread to think what you conjure up when your brain isn’t engaged. And I’m ‘rude’ to pull you up on it? Right ....

You think my reference to your mindset being close to Roy Whiting that you may like to admit is disgusting, and I think that your solution to criminals is to destroy them like mad dogs is disgusting.
So let's just agree on mutually assured disgust, and leave it there.

Ludwig - // No-one is close to Whiting's mindset unless they're planning on kidnapping, raping, and murdering children. //
I entirely agree, which is why that is not what I said.
// Wishing him to suffer and being glad when it does (as I am) doesn't bring you anywhere close to it. I'd say it means you're normal. //
It is 'normal' in the defined sense of the word, that a majority of people probably feel like that, but my point is that it is not desirable, simply because it is a standard emotional reaction.
Wishing harm on a man who has caused pain and death is a normal emotional reaction, but it is not the response of a civilised society as a whole, which we all live in.
If it was, Mr Whiting's torture and death would replace Strictly Come Dancing as the nation's Saturday night entertainment.
We have laws that are created and enacted without emotion, and that is what civilisation is all about.

It goes without saying that this man is a vile and despicable individual.
I also ought to go without saying that prisoners once dealt with by the judicial system ought to be kept in safety from other prisoners with little to lose (whole life tarrifers etc).
Human nature decrees that we have a natural revulsion for those who indiscriminately kill and in particular those who kill or abuse our young. There is a strong desire for revenge when this takes place and it is somewhat understandable that people who are incarcerated and angry will act on that. It's the job of the prison service to ensure that ought not to be possible.
Whilst I can't with an honest heart lament unpleasant things happening to this man, we have to ensure that they don't and if we have an issue with the fact that the justice system doesn't fulfil our desires ( I am though personally anti death penalty) then we need to work as a society to amend that (although I gather that the death penalty cannot be reinstated). We can't tolerate prison vigilantes, or indeed vigilantes anywhere.

The difference being that you've addressed a rather nasty insult at another Ab'er whereas she's just expressed a general opinion on something, which is what we're supposed to do here.

That's a matter of personal perception - and that has to be Naomi's perception, not yours.
Naomi has the option to report my post if she feels it contravenes Site Rules, although she takes a somewhat perverse pride in the fact that she never reports anything.
I think Naomi is more than capable of defending herself, but thanks for your input.
