It’s it a bit arrogant to think that people around you wouldn’t be offended?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6478763/Hunt-continues-Chelsea-fan-appeared-call-Raheem-Sterling-f-ing-black-c.html

It’s like this man fell out of a space ship that came from 1972.

But seriously - why would someone shout this out, unless they were really drunk or high?

A drunken peabrain using the most pertinent insult to express its frustration is the most likely scenario. Unfortunately though Farage and Tommy three names have led the far right into thinking their idiotic nastiness is somehow acceptable nowadays

He has been identified
All the people around him were too busy shouting their own abuse to have heard him Ken.
Good.
(I always thought fbc was hitting the jackpot on a night out.)
No one doubts this was an idiotic nasty thing to shout at anyone. IMHO Its not racist though. We are encouraged to call what I was brought up to address as 'coloured gentleman/lady, as a black man or black woman. They identify as Black. What that guy shouted was abuse, yes, but not racial abuse.
Sp, //I’ve tried to explain something to you.

You might not agree, but please accept that others may have an alternative point of view.//

Ah, I see. When you posted this you wanted everyone to be as aggrieved as you are and now you’re disgruntled because they’re not. You don’t need to explain anything to me, neither do you need to ‘bring me up to speed’. Black people who take offence as easily you do need to get over themselves. They aren’t unique in being on the receiving end of the mouths of the idiotic uncouth. It happens to people of all shades, cultures and classes. I do accept that others have an alternative point of view. I just happen to think those eager to take offence serve only to feed the offender exactly what he’s after and are, therefore, fools to themselves. But as I said, your choice.
Ken @ 17:44
// so i would expect him to be banned for life should he ever be identified //

From the link in the OP

// But Chelsea are said to have identified him after studying CCTV footage in the stadium and TV pictures from BT Sport and have given his details to the Met //
Just reported on 6pm news on Radio 2, 4 supporters have been suspended pending further enquiries.
If the other 3 are his mates, i can see them 'dobbing' him in if the alternative is a life ban from the ground.

So many people think this isn’t racist.

Nomi24 - in this case, don’t you think that black people have a right to be find that behaviour unacceptable?

Exactly what does someone have to do in your entitled world to be considered racist?
I've missed these.

Eager to take offence?

He called him a ‘***ibg black c***’.

What is wrong with you???
I assume you're talking to me, sp. Nothing is wrong with me. As I said, I can understand that he's upset at being sworn at but I simply don't see why being called 'black' is offensive to a black man. In taking offence at that he's denigrating himself.
sp14 do not make assumptions of 'entitlement'. You have no idea who anyone is on here and for all you know I could be black myself!

For me Racism is making negative and disparaging remarks aimed solely at the colour or heritage of the victim by repeating obnoxious stereotyping or known offensive adjectives associated with the particular race or colour. I am not going to give examples.

Calling someone 'Black' is descriptive. When expletives proceed this description then the sentence is offensive, not racist.
"Fat get! Can't run!" "Bloody ref is blind!"
"Kick it yer bloody cripple!"
And so football culture rolls on, and the crowd let off steam, what they paid for!
You fat ***
You bald ***
You gay ***
You black ***

The abuser is picking something out that makes a person (in their opinion) not equal to them.

The word black is meant to highlight that there is something wrong with being black. It is racist imo.
Is it the red card, the yellow card or the racist card at play here?

The offenders name should have gone in the black book, either way.
Talbot, //The word black is meant to highlight that there is something wrong with being black. It is racist imo. //

But by taking offence at the word 'black' the abused is in effect agreeing with the abuser that there is something wrong with being black. Why be offended if there isn't?

You joined AB five months ago. I've been a member for thirteen years. Believe me when I say I know who is entitled.

Naomi24 - you wrote:

Yes, that's perfectly reasonable in the cold light of day. But when people are shouting abuse, the recipient doesn't sit down to analyse the semantics of the sentence.

If someone called you a ****ing stupid woman, you wouldn't set and deconstruct the sentence and then respond with, "I may have had sexual intercourse...that is indeed true. However I challenge you on my intelligence level. And yes, I'm a woman."

Literally no-one does that.

When the bloke shouted, "You ****ing black ***" he wasn't expecting the words to be separated into their constituent parts.

Surely you can see that???

Oh for God' sake. I can't believe you don't understand.
SP to AL //You joined AB five months ago. I've been a member for thirteen years. Believe me when I say I know who is entitled.//

What is that supposed to mean? Who is entitled?

Oh, I understand, sp…. and I think your response is self-defeating. You’re falling right into the trap. You're furious? Mission accomplished.

//Literally no-one does that.//

Me, me, me! After I’ve chuckled. Probably the result of being the only kid on the council estate to wear a uniform, go to a posh school and run the twice-daily gauntlet past the baying comprehensive mob. One of life's lessons well learnt. ;o)
