The Sun Newspaper?
Do you think 'The Sun' newspaper is targeted at those people in our society who are: incapable of independent thought, and unable to reach an opinion on news events without being told what to think by' The Sun Says'? Or, does reading 'The Sun' eventually make you that way?
I guess what I'm asking is, do you think it's 'dumbed down' to appeal to thick people because they wouldn't buy a newspaper that challenged them, or has reading 'The Sun' made them thick?

Not EVERYONE has an IQ over 100 and we should stop pretending otherwise. It's is patronising in itself to go on pretending everyone's as clever as everyone else.
Cripes - variety is the spice of life - are we not allowed to be different?
People are allowed to recognise where they are better than me - and frequently do - before you suggest otherwise. I am happy for people to be more intelligent than me, more attractive than me, better educated, richer etc. I do not consider myself top of the heap, nor do I consider myself the bottom. I therefore have to recognise that on ALL things, there are people above me and people below me. That's not being patronising, it's bieng realistic.
Buddy for the LAST TIME - people did NOT say EVERY reader. And everyone recgonised that there are many many exceptions to the "rule". If you want to rant about pigeon-holing, I suggest you talk to the right-wing lot who claim that everyone remotely centre or let of it is a "looney liberal" and that EVERYONE who reads the Guardian is also a looney liberal. Why should THEY be allowed to pigeon hole, yet you attack people who were careful not to.
Thanks again Buddy, but Im curious, you really dont think The Sun is dumbed down? Really?
I didnt use the term brainwashing, but if the soap fits
Ive nothing against The Star mind, which was mentioned earlier. It has no pretensions to be anything other than what it is, entertainment and soft porn.
I guess when it comes right down to it, The Sun mainly tells its readers what it thinks they want to hear, thats how it sells papers. But is that a good thing?
It was all going so sweetly for you stevie and jan-bug then Buddy comes along.Sorry but neither one of you have really read my rants and addressed them.
Stevie - just a little addendum - although the Star does provide entertainment and soft porn - its just a little too soft for him -he prefers the hard-core (the undercurrent did not escape me)
I never said the Sun was either dumbed up or whether they IMO just reported news - what I did say was in probably other words people can make their own minds up.
P.S I used the word brainwash -I did not suggest you used the word.It might help if you read each posting and didnt just skim over it like some might do with a broadsheet.
Jan-Bug - I said what I said to you because I could almost see you rubbing your hands with glee that you and your new kindred spirit had actually wakened up a Sun reader from their slumber to stimulate what was a patronising tirade against people with lower intelligence.
Now dont go on quoting and misquoting because my brain cant handle it cos I've now got to the Editorial and its taking me all my time to assimilate their indoctrination.
Maggie01-So if I start reading the Times, that will make me a more intelligent and better person is that right?
Im not sure, but theres no harm in giving it a try is there, I dont want you to think Im pushing any particular brand of paper, try any you like just not The Sun.
My question has nothing to do with how much money people earn, there status, car or job, or even what paper they read, its about taking some pride in thinking for themselves., and not accepting the reactionary garbage The Sun wants to dish out .
Stevie - c2it Please see your posting of 14.57 today in response to your reply to maggie.
Think you are up against it with us 'Red top' readers.
Thank God I am down to earth and dont have to prove myself by buying a broadsheet just to impress.
BTW - If we are different why are you targeting peoples reading material and not just letting people live and let live.Just accept it and stop putting people down (and before you start yes you have).
Firstly, (and rather like a sun journalist) your casting aspersions (i.e. making stuff up) about my porn habits without knowing anything about me. As it happens youre probably right, but you werent to know.
Secondly, youre telling untruths, in your post at 16:16 you said I dont think its dumbed down. Thats why I asked the question.
See I am reading your posts, carefully. An ironic accusation?
Maggie01, please read the post again, what I said is that the majority of Sun journalists have nothing in common with the majority of Sun readers. They are therefore being disingenuous, pretending to average everyday folk worried about bills, taxes and mortgages, when they themselves live privileged and sheltered lives.
I've said my piece stevie and liked your last comment - hope its a jumbo straw:-)
Some people dont understand that you can have a heated discussion and not take it personally.Thats the whole idea of living in Ab Land oops meant a democratic society!!!
