Most of this can be laid at the door of Anthony Blair and his Good Friday agreement. Soldiers treated like S??t whilst terrorists allowed to walk free.

//what about the 'letters of comfort' that were received by IRA men and others, promising that they would not be prosecuted? //
Others included John Downey who was suspected of involvement in the Hyde Park bombing. His initial trial five years ago collapsed as the police had gone on record stating he wasn't a person of interest. On further review,he is to be extradited from the Republic to face trial.

"Is nobody going to mention all the IRA bombers and murderers who were let out of prison as a result of the Good Friday Agreement - the doors were just about thrown open and they were waved out. And what about the 'letters of comfort' that were received by IRA men and others, promising that they would not be prosecuted? "
Letters of comfort were not a good idea. As for the others, they WERE all prosecuted. If it was up to me I would not have allowed any early releases, but sometimes ...

I knew someone who was in that particular incident; in the Paras. He said it was a complete accident that the shooting started when one one of the Paras, moving backwards, fell over a small wall and his gun went off, resulting in others firing. Is it true? He said it was. But I can't believe these men are facing prosecution, when known Irish terrorists are given a pardon. Outrageous.
A bit of perspective here:-
However, the Saville Inquiry, many years later, determined that Wilford had expressly disobeyed an order from a superior officer, Brigadier Pat MacLellan, who prohibited Wilford from sending troops into the Bogside. The Saville Inquiry found that MacLellan was not to blame for the shootings.[4] Lord Saville said Colonel Wilford was wrong to send soldiers into an unfamiliar area where there was risk of attack from Irish republican paramilitaries, in circumstances where the soldiers' response would risk civilians being killed or injured.
I wonder what Soldier F thinks about that part of the ruling?

The Good Friday Agreement wiped the slate clean for hundreds of terrorists who all set out to murder, injure and maim every time they set about their activities.
Hundreds more were never brought to book nor prosecuted.
The soldiers on that day didn’t deliberately set out from barracks with the express purpose of killing someone.
The GFA should apply to all or none, no in between.
As for evidence being submitted some 47 years on, good luck with that.
Still, many in the legal profession have doubtless made a pretty penny over all this and will continue to do so for some time yet.

Col.Wilford defied a senior officer's instructions.I have heard him give several interviews over the years and he is deeply arrogant and dismissive in his attitude. He fails to recognise that any fault lies with his actions on the fateful day.
