"so it makes sense for those who were young in the 60's / 70's to have prejudice opinions of black people and to think it acceptable to mock them / compare them to primates. "
YMB do't take it personally. I'm simply shedding light on why the older generation can be more racially inclined than the younger one. And it's true. People my age will say "my nans a bit racist" etc.. Because they're from a different time, where society collectively viewed black people differently.
Spath,// the older generation can be more racially inclined than the younger one//
Absolute rubbish. My generation was and is more tolerant of other races.
"Absolute rubbish. My generation was and is more tolerant of other races."
That is highly debatable. If anything society has become more accepting of everyone, gay, black, whatever than it was in the past. Today's society is more accepting in many ways, not just race.
It would seem by the way you have taken over this thread that you have an enormous chip on your shoulder.
Since you have obviously plenty to say on the discrimination of black people, and so as to take some weight off your shoulder, may I suggest that you open up your own thread on the subject of black discrimination, rather than derail this one?
I disagree that the thread has been derailed. You can comment on Danny Baker, or black discrimination, or anything around those topics and the threads flow will be kept.
spath--So you think the younger generation is more tolerant nowadays. Come up to Lancashire and you'd be sadly mistaken. Also
blacks were not the only ones who were taken into slavery. One of my white ancestors was enslaved by the Moroccan pirates and taken to Africa. People were kidnapped from many European countries. White people were highly prized by the marauding sadistic Africans. You need to brush up on your History.
There must be an awful lot of unknowingly racist people around, especially up here in Lancashire. It's quite common to hear children being called 'little monkeys' when they are behaving mischievously.Never did we equate that with racism.
You obviously don't understand why people refer black people to monkeys / apes, then Andres. It has nothign to do with being a "cheeky monkey" or mischievous or child like behaviour.
I'm not sure what happened in Moroccan culture, but i can only speak from a the position of a white person living in the UK.
You know for a young person to exist, they have to have an older parent? That parent, if they are tolerant of all races ,why would they raise a racist? It makes no sense.
It does make sense for a racist to raise a non racist though.
