/// Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased. ///

/// 'Soon as those good enough to point out it's possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that's it. ///

Why did he need for this obvious racist insult to be pointed out to him?

Lucky Donald Trump or Tommy Robinson didn't do it. No rubbers on ends of pencils would have erased that!

It would, aog... it would seem obvious I'm sure if I personally saw it myself, but while I have heard people referred to as "apes" as a bit of an insult... they are generally white and I take it to be behaviour.
As i have said before, I have a mixed race granddaughter, who I have called "a monkey", purely because of cheeky toddler behaviour, like I did with my own (white) children.
But you have to think when making public posts.
Yes, I'm sure, Danny x

/// Ummm i don't need to know you personally to know that a white person would see this tweet very differently from a black person, especially a black person of a certain age. ///

I didn't see this tweet any different than you did and I am a white person of a certain age.

It's a good job Apes can't read and write...I'm sure they would be offended at people constantly referring to them as Monkeys.

AOG you need to read the context in which that was said. Ummm was implying anyone who thought his was racist had a diseased mind.
I was saying, "as a white person i'm sure you would say that. If you were black your opinion would be different"
He's been monumentally stupid, but I don't believe he's a racist.

ummmm's right, people in the public eye shouldn't use social media platforms, especially not to *try* to be funny.

To paraphrase something unconnected - "A moment on the Tweets, a lifetime on the streets".

It is said that we share about 99% of our DNA with chimpanzees, making them our closest living relatives.

https://www.livescience.com/7929-human-evolution-closest-living-relatives-chimps.html

And we are told that we all originated from Africa, we cannot be held responsible for our skin turning a pale colour.
He's been fired.
I don't think we are held responsible for that, aog.

/// It's not just black history, it's history, because without the white man, the black man wouldn't have been suppressed. ///

Really? If you are referring to the slave trade, white men have been taken by Arab slave traders and sold in Africa, also Africans made a lucrative living from selling their own to slave traders, granted their biggest market was to whites, but it was also whites who later banned slavery.

And try talking about suppression to present day white South African farmers, they certainly know what suppression is all about and it is much, much worse than any present day black person's experiences in today's white-man's world.
One thing I am pleased to see, is that I have said so many time, (usually on "transgender" threads), that without the history, upbringing, personal experience, environment, etc, that it is impossible to totally identify and understand a different "group". You have to listen and learn. I am really pleased to see that spath and SP at least, are starting to appreciate this too.
Aog, we have not really been disadvantaged by being white. Have we?

/// I don't think we are held responsible for that, aog. ///

That is what I said.

But having said that we are constantly criticised for being white.
I can't say I ever have been.
//Aog, we have not really been disadvantaged by being white. Have we?//

Not in the UK, although with 'positive discrimination' this is changing. Some other countries yes you are disadvantaged by being white.

The problem with Social Media though it is more often than not someone taking offence on behalf of someone else. Plus, as in this case, far more people have seen it then the few hundred who would have done if it was just left to pass. And by doing this is feeds the haters and vitue signallers into a pointless cycle.
AOG i’m sorry you’ve been so hard done by

Try telling that to those whites who are not able to apply for jobs when certain employers are advertising for only black and ethnic minorities.

Spath - I wasn't implying anything! I don't know his intentions. I said it was ill judged.
Aog, we need to rebalance things.... in decades, white males have not managed to, which means others also have less chances of being hired... sadly, it seems to be something that will need to be forced and won't happen naturally. But fairness is not the same as discrimination... when it has got so out of hand in the first place.

Perhaps you should save your apologies for those who are constantly going on about how hard they are done by, in a white man's world.

But then if they feel so strongly about their sufferings, they could always emigrate to Africa.
