Britain does these things so very well!

Lump in throat, tear in eye – and that from someone who wasn’t around on D-Day but is nevertheless eternally grateful for the sacrifice made by that generation. I hope it is never forgotten. Heartfelt thanks to them all.

I saw a report on Ch4 news yesterday. RBL chartered a ferry and are taking D-Day vets first to Dunkirk,Poole and Normandy. Ex sapper called Jones still had painful memories as he related what he experienced going on to the beach. Bought a few lumps in my throat. They have my utmost respect and admiration.
Looked like they were treated royally on the boat with singing and dancing(war time songs) and plenty of beer. Bless em all. The Long and the Short and the Tall.
The French are out in Force again to show their gratitude. Shame some can't.
I'm puzzled as to why it is today and not tomorrow, the actual anniversary.
Twas a sensational programme, well done hit the right notes and never OTT and encompassed all aspects of the D-Day landings.
Not all the french are out in force - interesting News interview yesterday on ITV saying that there is a large group of elderly French that believe that more civilians were slaughtered by the Allies than needed to be.
Shame the aBBC used that article to attack President Trump.
Is nothing sacred?
At times, my thoughts and sympathy were for Angela Merkel having to sit through and relive the mis-fortunes and hatred of her forefathers.
It could have been easy for her.
"couldn't" ^^
watched the fly pass from my front garden ,very impressive x
Thank you for starting this thread Naomi. It was very moving to watch.
We owe so much to them. Let's hope it NEVER gets forgotton.
She hates Germany, sqad.
LOL ..does she spice?
//slaughtered by the Allies than needed to be.//
There is a great difference between the word slaughter and accidental collateral damage. If Caen wasn't taken by the allies before the Germans rushed reinforcements to the front then there would be no liberation of Europe from Nazism. Caen was key and iunfortunately the civilians could not flee as it was heavily defended by Germans. It had to be bombed or all allied troops would of died in vain on the beaches.
If you want to use the phrase slaughtered civilians then I suggest you turn your attention to this village and similar in France.

Spice...how odd....what was that all about?
That is your opinion retro but not that of the people in question
She's a globalist. Did you see the disgust on her face, Lol.
I did indeed Spice.
Trump famously avoided the Vietnam Draft 5 times apparently because he had ‘bad feet’. Which didn’t seem to hamper him while playing baseball, football and soccer to ‘pro standard’ at Military Academy.
You used the word 'slaughtered'.
As did one of the interviews I saw the otherday spice.
