/// Edgbaston is traditionally a stronghold of India and Paksitan supporters at international tournaments, so much so that Morgan anticipates an atmosphere more like an away game. ///

Seems like these India and Pakistan fans don't consider themselves English.

Regarding making my post redundant you could of course use your usual way and get the thread removed or not bother contributing to it.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but Ièm sure you will understand if I dont indulge you in derailing a thread you have started.
That makes sense now, Togo. I wondered why India weren’t going for the big shots near the end they needed to win. So did the commentators.

To quote AH who for once I agree with,

// Hang on, you're trying to turn this thread into the game - it's about the ethnicity of the supporters for heavens sakes! //
//So did the commentators.//

Unfortunately "they" will not let me speak on an open channel. Too much truth is liable to "shock the nation". Bless.
you may find traveling Indian supporters at such matches, just as the Barmy Army follow England's cricketeres round the world. They are not expected to cheer Australians in the Ashes just because they happen to be in Australia.
Fair point jno. There were indeed a record number of visa applications, ostensibly, to attend the matches. Flights have been paid for and made(80,000 was a rough estimate). No figures yet for the return flight bookings. I see that Al Jazeera is calling the Pakistani supporters the "stani" army whilst the Indians style themselves the Bharat army.

This takes me back!
Tut tut Tills...….(^_+)They don't wear "locks" in India or Pakistan. Scared of being accused of cultural misappropriation I suppose.
Oops!

When are the West Indies playing?
Perhaps the OP missed this article then

Thank you for your BBC link
choux, apart from the usual dig at myself and the Daily Mail.

It goes to further highlight that my thread is a debatable subject, (71 postings to date) ignoring the usual anti-AOG brigades usual accusations of racism, if one dares to approach certain matters.

Incidentally I think you failed to notice that I did not get my link from the Daily Mail.
I read a letter in the Daily Mail a couple of days ago when in non English/British Foreign climes.
The correspondent( with an Anglo Saxon type name) commented that Indian and Pakistani cricket fans shared the same unsegregated stand, waving their national flags and cheering on their countries teams.
Now,imo, that would be a joy to behold and worthy of comment.

No-one has accused you of racism AOG, which again underlines the point made to you by myself and others on other threads, that you don't actually understand what the term means.

For your information I understand perfectly what the term means since it is not I who constantly uses the word in incorrectly, when they infer or directly accuse others of racism.

So perhaps you would be better employed teaching those others the true meaning of the word, since it is them who bander the word around freely in their quest to stifle true debate on sensitive subjects, that happen to criticise mass uncontrolled immigration, ethnic minorities or a certain religion.

Your posts, and your responses indicate otherwise.

You regularly start threads with a 'Is this racist?' theme, when clearly, to anyone who does understand the term, the object of your inspection is not racist, or could remotely be considered so.

The OP here is a prime example, where you dream up some nonsense about the loyalties of cricket supporters to shoehorn your endless obsession with race and religion in the News section yet again.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, the problem is that you often post about things that don't just happen to refer to race or religion it's BECAUSE YOU see a racial or religious element to them.

Instead of your regular attacks on me, perhaps you should carry out a simple research exercise before you put your fingers to keys?

Let me help you, type 'Is This racist' in the search box and you will find that I am in a minority in asking that question.

As I have already said their are far too many who play the race card when one dares to criticise the minorities, even when applied to Muslims/Islam who are not a race, which makes others ask the question 'what is really racism and what is not'?

As regards your accusation of my endless obsession with race and religion in the News section, this is the news section and unless you haven't noticed through your rose tinted spectacles, certain races and religions can't keep out of the news, which makes them a very popular discussion subject, along with threads on Brexit, Trump and Uk politics and they attract the most posts.

But if my threads on race upset your sensibilities, please feel free not to respond to them.

AOG - // Instead of your regular attacks on me … //

In addition to your shaky understanding of the concept of racism, you also have an uncommonly thin skin for one so keen to fire shots at other AB'ers for their views.

Another concept you clearly fail to grasp is the difference between being 'attacked' and simply having your views challenged, which is rather how the notion of debate works.
